A Must Read by Mark Stanford, Ph.D. 5 Stars
June 09, 2009
I just finished reading the new book, Cocaine & Methamphetamine Addiction: Treatment,Recovery and Relapse Prevention. I think this is an essential work for a number of reasons. First, it provides an excellent context - both historically and clinically, about the 2 stimulant drugs. Second, it gives the clinician a pragmatic and meaningful framework by which to develop treatment strategies specific to cocaine and meth addiction. Third, the book offers critically important information on the dynamics of families in recovery, an often missing aspect in other works on the treatment of addiction. This is an exceptional book and one that should be required reading for all those in the behavioral health care industry. Thanks for putting this information out. A Clinician's Guide to 12-Step Recovery: Integrating 12-Step Programs into Psychotherapy
by Mark Schenker (Author)

The worlds of psychotherapy and addiction recovery have long been uneasy bedfellows. Most rehabilitation programs offer both twelve-step treatment and psychotherapy, but they are not integrated either in theory or in practice. While intuitively there would appear to be a clear connection between these two areas, in fact, they remain uncomfortable allies, and sometimes not even that.

People in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction are often wary of professionals...

Willpower's Not Enough: Recovering from Addictions of Every Kind
by Arnold M. Washton (Author)

Many people think that what the addict needs is willpower, but nothing could be further from the truth: When a person has already lost control over a drug or activity, attempts to control its use almost never work. Because the source of addiction isn't the drug or activity itself but a desire for a mood changer, successful recovery means ultimately changing the way we live, giving up the addictive life-style. Willpower's Not Enough will show you how to change your life-style and to recover...
