EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Illuminates the value of understanding the psychophysiology of trauma for both clinicians and their traumatized clients. Traumatized people hold a memory of that trauma in their brains and bodies. This is the first book to link this phenomenon of somatic memory and the impact of trauma on the body. Reducing the chasm between scientific theory and clinical practice and bridging the gap between talk and body therapy, Rothschild presents techniques for addressing the memory in the body. |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 23 reviews)
| Very simple, easy to grasp by Anaya (new york) 5 Stars October 24, 2009 This book is divided into two parts: 1) Theory of trauma- what it is, how it is stored in the brain and body, the basic science of trauma and such. 2) trauma treatment- what does one do when they have a client who has trauma related issues- how does one work with the body to release trauma. The reasons for me finding this book useful are:
1) the writing is clear, concise and easy to understand.
2) this book is a fantastic intro to a very complex field of study and once you have the basics down, reading other more complex material is easier.
3) I found the techniques to be very useful with clients who have PTSD( tried and tested them)
Overall, I have read this book easily and quickly and found the techniques easy to apply and useful. I would def. buy this and give it a read.
| | A Godsend by Survivor (PA, USA) 5 Stars April 21, 2009 As a survivor who struggles with a vast array of symptoms associated with Complex PTSD, this book was a Godsend for me. I have been able to understand what is happening to me physically when I have flashbacks, anxiety attacks and what causes triggers that send me into states of dissociation. And just understanding what is taking place has helped me control these episodes more effectively and more quickly than I have ever been able to prior.
I gave this book to my therapist who has in turned passed it on to other clients, it has been an enormous help.
I am so grateful to have come across this book and highly recommend it to anyone who deals with trauma, whether as a therapist or as a trauma survivor.
| | Revealing and healing by Nancy E. Turner (Tucson, AZ USA) 5 Stars January 03, 2009 A phenomenal book. Written for professionals, but accessible to the rest of us. Thank you, Dr. Rothschild.
| | Technical but very useful by F. Gibbons 4 Stars October 29, 2008 Rothschild does a great job of explaining the relationship between trauma and its impact on the body/mind and how listening to the body can play an important role in recovering from traumatic experiences.
It's quite technical and not the type of book I enjoy reading in sequence. I found it much more interesting to read different sections on a "need to know" basis. I was sometimes amazed at how well it applied to my own experiences.
| | Excellent basic information and practical applications by Philip Morgan 4 Stars June 14, 2008 This book gives a very good explanation of trauma and some excellent examples of how to work with it. The information may not be new to those working in the field, but it is the clearest description of brain functioning and trauma that I have read and the treatments she offers are very usable. I highly recommend this book especially for those just learning about trauma or new to working with the clients body.

| Trauma and the Body: A Sensorimotor Approach to Psychotherapy by Kekuni Minton (Author), Pat Ogden (Author), Clare Pain (Author), Bessel van der Kolk (Foreword), Daniel J. Siegel (Foreword)
The body, for a host of reasons, has been left out of the "talking cure." Psychotherapists who have been trained in models of psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, or cognitive therapeutic approaches are skilled at listening to the language and affect of the client. They track the clients' associations, fantasies, and signs of psychic conflict, distress, and defenses. Yet while the majority of therapists are trained to notice the appearance and even the movements of the client's body,...
