My favorite book as a child by Muneerah (CT) 5 Stars October 09, 2009 Rereading this as an adult I am flabbergasted at how deep this book was for kids but I remember adoring it as a child. I shows how horrendously selfish humans can be but has such a message of hope as well. If you have a child that thinks deeply and loves looking at little furry creatures this could be a wonderful book for them. I bought it again several years ago for my shelf fearful that it may go out of print some day...I can't wait to read it to my nephews when they are old enough.

A Good Lesson by Mary Lloyd (Tacoma, WA) 5 Stars June 08, 2009 The Wump World was published in the 1970's but it is a very real story of what might happen to the planet right now if we don't pay attention to what we are doing to it--but it's a story of hope, for kids. My son loved this book so much when he was four that I finally BOUGHT it for him so other kids would have a chance to take it out of the library. I bought an amazon.com copy a few weeks ago so that my new granddaughter would have her own copy--for Dad to read to her.

A great gift. by Mark A. Watkins (Chicago, IL USA) 5 Stars October 24, 2008 I loved this book when I was a kid. It's a timeless story that I give to my friends with children. Peet teaches an important lesson in a way that both children and adults can appreciate.

This teaches a wonderful lesson in a very poignant but entertaining way. by Christopher Kennedy (Buckingham, PA) 5 Stars September 12, 2008 I am a professional voice over artist specializing in children's books and I find all the Bill Peet books to be an absolute joy. Every year my son asks me to read this book for his class as "it will teach my friends how to take care of our world." Brilliantly clever illustrations that contain so much detail you can improvise and add tons more to the story! A very entertaining and totally involving story with a perfect moral for all kids and adults today.
