| Best Residency Program Book by Kani Noori 5 Stars May 03, 2006
I am one of 60 postgraduate hematology residents enrolled in a training program in Iraq supervised by Professor Anwar Sheikha, MD, FRCP, FRCPath. We were looking for a reference book to guide us through our intensive training curriculum. This book came as every one's favorite! Though heavy and difficult to handle, especially for a petit lady like myself, the chapters are short, informative, readable, authoritative and up to our needs. The Image Bank CD associated with the book is becoming so popular between the residents that we start our days through presentation of the slides after reading the text earlier, at a rate of a chapter a week. We hopefully get done with all the chapters by the end of our training.
One major drawback of the book is not its sheer weight but rather the number of errors that should not have passed the attention of the editors in a reputable book like Hoffman at its fourth edition! Table 60-8 alone has at least three structural mistakes! Table 60-4 has "AML not otherwise categorized" misplaced! I can count numerous other errors, but still we all feel that this book is the best in the field. I am afraid for others who want to use the book as their sole reference bible, these mistakes could be quite misleading.
We collectively recommend this reference book as the ultimate for any hematology residency program but hope that the next edition, which is supposed to come in five years, be devoid of these avoidable mistakes. One last wish is having the entire book on a CD to be able to print and read the chapters in a more pleasant way.
