They have a definite bean fetish! by C. Smith (Charlotte, NC, USA) 3 Stars
October 27, 2009
Nearly every recipe features some type of beans, whether white, black, red, brown, whatever - though some of the recipes do sound far more appetizing than the stuff that appears in The McDougall Diet, which I gave to my mom when she was diagnosed with diabetes. I'm an admitted sugar junkie, and I refuse to give up my coffee for Postum (which tastes terrible); also, what's so bad about a little olive oil? Basically, the McDougalls may like a lot of this stuff (such as The World's Fastest Dinner, pasta mixed with 2 kinds of salsa and sauce, not something I'd try serving my neighbor's dog), but the only recipes I find of any interest are the soups...to which I am definitely not adding Tabasco sauce (what's up with that, anyway?) or salsa, yick.

Love It! by Jas Evans (Maryland, USA) 5 Stars
October 19, 2009
We decided to go on a healthier diet. Cut out animal products, including dairy, and no added vegetable oils. This cookbook has been a godsend. The dishes are as easy and fast as claimed (I love the margin notes that tell about prep and cooking times), and they taste great! I am working my way through - Mushroom Stroganoff is an early favorite. It takes all the work out of eating healthy and I've lost over 12 pounds since we started. There are recipe hints that seem to show up just when I'm getting confused, and I even enjoy the factoids that they include every few pages. I don't even think about cooking until I've consulted my McDougall.

Great Addition to the Mcdougall library by T. Jordan (Pittsburgh PA) 5 Stars

I love this cookbook. One of the problems when you start Mcdougall is what to cook. This book gives quick and easy answers to that problem. Lots of variety, cooking tips, and little health asides make this a wonderful cookbook for anyone trying to work this particular eating plan. This book is nicely laid out and a pleasure to use. Good tasting recipes as well.

Favorite Cookbook Among My Collection of 72 Veg Cookbooks by Caroline Trapp 5 Stars
December 08, 2008
The recipes in this book are simple and delicious, which is why this is, hands down, my favorite cookbook to give as a gift to friends and family who desire better health and don't know where to start. In addition to wonderful, well-tested recipes with inexpensive, easy-to-find ingredients, every third page or so features an explanation of one aspect of nutrition, so the reader learns what wrong with cow's milk; why oils are not healthy; foods that are filling without being fattening, and much more. Dr. McDougall's recommendations on nutrition are based on published research, and his website offers free newsletters and an outstanding archive of past issues, all of which include the citations for those who care to know about the research upon which his recommendations are based.

Great for a beginner by Sharon Lewis (TN) 5 Stars

Like one of the other reviewers, I read "The China Study" and it changed my life and led me here. After first checking out this book at the library, I decided to purchase it. This is truly an easy Vegan cookbook with meals that can be prepared quickly and with groceries you typically have on hand. There are also some recipes which include ingredients (like Quinoa) that may help you "grow" if you are a beginner. Highly recommended addition to your cookbook library.
