Product Description
The New York Times bestseller that is an inspiring “story of hope” (People) for parents of autistic children One morning Jenny McCarthy was having a cup of coffee when she sensed something was wrong. She ran into her two-year-old son Evan’s room and found him having a seizure. Doctor after doctor misdiagnosed Evan until—after many harrowing, life-threatening episodes—one good doctor discovered that Evan is autistic. With a foreword from Dr. David Feinberg, medical director of the Resnick Neuro-psychiatric Hospital at UCLA, and an introduction by Jerry J. Kartzinel, a top pediatric autism specialist, Louder Than Words follows Jenny as she discovered an intense combination of behavioral therapy, diet, and supplements that became the key to saving Evan from autism. Her story sheds much-needed light on autism through her own heartbreak, struggle, and ultimately hopeful example of how a parent can shape a child’s life and happiness.

Such a help for me to read this. Good to see Jenny's opinions on causes and treatments of autism. I know they are shared by many. She writes a story of victory over autism and how much work needs to be done by the professionals who treat this disease. A must read.

Excellent in every way. Finally someone to speak out against vaccines. by Samuel T. Collins (Charlotte, NC USA) 5 Stars

This is a great book and I love that the author was willing to go against the health care system. I don't understand people who think doctors are gods. What are the secrets that doctors have that we "common folk" don't have access to? I have a number of degrees, none of which are in the medical field, but I can't imagine that there is anything I know that couldn't be found in a book or on the internet. I understand the need to have doctors and I'm very thankful for people who specialize in different fields, but just because someone becomes a lawyer or a doctor doesn't mean that they are good at what they do.

A mother's memoir of her son's diagnosis with autism by J. Carangal (Maryland USA) 4 Stars
July 28, 2009
I read this book in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do not have a child with autism and my experience with autism is limited to the students in my general education middle school who generally have mild forms of autism. But I read this book expecting it to be a "memoir" of one mother's experiences with the diagnosis and early treatments of her autistic child. And that is exactly what this was. This was not a "self-help" book, nor a scientific monograph about how to treat autism. The author did a great job of communicating her emotions throughout the book - I could feel her frustration, her confusion, her sadness, her hope. And I was intrigued with the portion of the book where she reflected on her son before the autism diagnosis and recognized signs she had not accurately recognized before. I appreciate her efforts to help her child. I can understand her need to get information from every source she can find - books, the internet, others dealing with similar situations. I am pleased for her that treatments seem to have helped her child, and my heart breaks for all of those parents who have also investigated all sorts of treatments that have been unsuccessful for their child.

Changing the Course of Autism: A Scientific Approach for Parents and Physicians

Changing the Course of Autism: A Scientific Approach for Parents and Physicians

A decade ago, autism was a rare disease--today, most Americans know a family with an autistic child. Autism is now epidemic, currently affecting half a million American children, or 1 in 150. This makes it the most common developmental disability--more common than Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, and mental retardation combined. Autism is growing at a startling rate of 10-17 percent per year, which means that the disease could reach several million Americans in the next decade. ...
