| | More than a Cookbook, A Life Changer by C Ray (Nashville, TN USA) 5 Stars September 15, 2009 I first came across The MediterrAsian Way quite by accident. I was in the library looking for weight loss books prior to the New Year since one of my resolutions was to really make dietary changes in 2009. I checked out a handful of books & became extremely frustrated with weight loss "solutions" that I knew did not or would not work for me. Then I came to this book & got so excited, realizing I already LOVED this type of food. I had wanted to make a lifestyle change, not just go on another diet. The MediterrAsian Way, did that for me. I learned so much about good fat & bad fat, & based on the book came up with a memorization system for shopping, thinking of it alphabetically. M&P (mono & poly)=good, S&T (saturated & trans)=bad. I checked this book out the maximum amount of times allowed by my library, unaware of the website for the book at the time. I began to apply the principles in January. When I visited my doctor for a physical in July, I had lost 27 pounds, & my cholesterol levels were down significantly from the year before. People started asking me what I had been doing to lose weight & at first it didn't even dawn on me because I had made a lifestyle change & adapted to it so easily...The MediterrAsian Way. That is all I did differently! More olive oil, no butter. Healthy snacks like almonds & apples. Much more brown rice & fish & lean meat. This book has incredible recipes & ideas & it is very positive in its presentation, making it simple to make the changes needed to see improvement. I now consider this book my "bible" for healthy living. It has truly made a difference in my life & taken away much of my frustration over the idea of weight loss or deprivation. I do not feel deprived. I get plenty of flavor & I feel great. Thanks Rick & Trudy for inspiration & sharing your journey. I highly recommend "The MediterrAsian Way," to anyone wanting to make a positive lifestyle change. [...]
| | Absolutely Best Cookbook Out There! by D. Uvaydova (New York, NY USA) 5 Stars August 03, 2009 Best Cookbook I have ever worked with! Great recipes, all of them delicious (rare to find a whole cookbook that just works!), quick, and very simple to follow. All the recipes use fresh, wonderful ingredients, and the outcome is so good, that you forget you're eating a healthy meal. I've got a 2 1/2 year old, and it's very hard to get him to eat a healthy meal, but he'll eat a lot of the recipes from this book, especially the Vietnamese Baked Fish, you've gotta try it!
You'll love the fact that this book has different cuisines all in one place: Thai (mmm!), Italian, Greek, Japanese, Vietnamese, Provencal, Spanish, Indonesian, and Chinese. In addition, it's a wonderful read about following a healthy lifestyle, effortlessly! Check out their website, [...], to get an idea for what this is all about! And enjoy the book, it has SO MUCH wonderful information! :)
| | Thank goodness for this wonderful resource by K. Hummer 5 Stars April 20, 2009 The MediterrAsian Way: A Cookbook and Guide to Health, Weight Loss, and Longevity, Combining the Best Features of Mediterranean and Asian Diets and Lifestyles
I happened across the MediterrAsian website while googling "healthy Asian recipes" for bento. I came across the site, and have been so incredibly impressed that I have been searching the site and trying out recipes all day. I cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner from the recipes they provided. Everything came out incredibly flavorful and delicious, and the healthy eating logic simply makes sense. I ordered the cookbook today, and I consider this website a life saver. I just started to carry bento to work so that I would think ahead and make healthy lunches, and now I have delicious and healthy recipes from my favorite recipe regions. I am very interested in reading the lifestyle section of the book, because in my view, here in the US we don't enjoy our food or our "time" like other cultures. When I was studying in Italy, it was normal to relax, enjoy a long lunch, sit at a cafe and people watch, share a glass of wine with friends. We seriously lack a sense of simple enjoyment of the day, and many of us don't even realize it. KUDOS Ric and Trudy!
