EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Covers the latest glucose meters and insulin treatments The straight facts on treating diabetes successfully and living a full life Want to know how to manage diabetes? Leading diabetes expert Dr. Alan Rubin gives you reassuring, authoritative guidance in putting together a state-of-the-art treatment program. You'll learn about all the advances in monitoring glucose, the latest medications, and how to develop a diet and exercise plan to stay healthy. You'll also see how to overcome insurance and on-the-job obstacles. Discover how to: Reduce your diabetes risk Understand the different types of diabetes Manage diabetes in children and the elderly Prevent long-term complications Get the support you need | Amazon.com Review "The Greeks and Romans knew about diabetes. Fortunately, the way they tested for the condition--by tasting the urine--has gone by the wayside." Diabetes for Dummies has the friendly, quirky style you expect from all the For Dummies books, but this is no skim-the-surface Diabetes 101. Rubin has packed this book with useful information, peppered with warm advice for enjoying your life while living with diabetes. One of his points is that although you'd rather not have this disease, you're lucky to have it now instead of a few decades ago, because today you can manage diabetes and live a productive, quality-filled life. The book is divided into sections on "Dealing with the Onset of Diabetes," "How Diabetes Affects Your Body," "Managing Diabetes: The 'Thriving with Diabetes' Lifestyle Plan," and "Special Considerations for Living with Diabetes." Each chapter is packed with facts and strategies on topics such as monitoring, battling complications, medications, diet, and exercise. If you skim, it's an introduction to diabetes; if you read it carefully, it's a textbook. Web surfers will appreciate the "Dr. W.W. Web" appendix, where Rubin lists many useful diabetes Web sites. (If you'd rather click than type, you can visit Rubin's Web site, where he offers links to all the diabetes sites.) Also included is a mini-cookbook of multiethnic recipes from noted restaurants, mostly in San Francisco (with the restaurant address, in case you want to order instead of cook). --Joan Price |

| Diabetes for Dummies by Margaret A. Hanson (Lakeside, AZ) 4 Stars September 06, 2009 Book was easy to read and understand and helped me more with the diabetes problems.
| | Most Informative by More Informed (Montgomery, TX) 4 Stars August 08, 2009 I am a Type II diabetic. Other than the limited amount of information provided by my doctor, I knew very little about the disease. "Diabetes for Dummies" provided much needed information that has helped me to bring the disease closer to being under control than I would have been able to do otherwise. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed as a Type II diabetic. Read it early on so that you won't be subject to all sorts of misinformation floating around.
| | Diabetes book by Saturnino Crespo 5 Stars July 30, 2009 This book is amazing. It is just about everything someone would need to know about diabetes. Whether you are new to this unfortunate condition, or have a friend or loved one with diabetes, this book helps you cope and understand what it is and what its about. Filled with information for begginers to more researched people. It never just goes into a subject you don't understand, it explains everything.

| | Diabetic Information by California Roper (Sacramento, CA USA) 5 Stars May 28, 2009 We just found out that my husband was diabetic. He was horrified. I prefer to research as much as possible to increase my knowledge, hopefully, providing better results. This book has great information. That would explain why the American Diabetic Organization recommended it. It provided information for us to cope and manage his health. I also purchased Diabetes 911...a great addition. Between the two, a couple pills and some insulin, we have dropped his glucose count by more than 350 in just 30 days. It is very likely that with just 2 little pills and watching his food choices, no insulin will be required. Bonus...he probably will be able to quit taking his high blood pressure medicine as well.
