Product Description
"Digital Infrared Photography," an all new guide that illustrates and explores the enchantingly beautiful world of infrared images. By simply adding a filter to the camera lens, or using a converted camera, digital photographers can capture infrared (IR) images featuring expressive skies, dramatic clouds, and intriguing white foliage. Illustrated with hundreds of striking IR images taken from around the world, this unique guide shows photographers how to get started and get creative with IR. Each chapter covers IR basics as well as imaginative techniques that produce eye-catching images. Subjects such as long exposures, multiple exposures, and image enhancement with hand coloring, mirroring, toning, and layering as well as HDR, Photomerge, and other creative Photoshop techniques are illustrated and explained in easily understood detail. The book also includes an inspirational gallery showcasing IR work from top photographers such as Kathleen Carr, Joe Farace, and Lewis Kemper, and engages the reader with interactive online end-of-chapter assignments. Deborah Sandidge is a professional award winning photographer, highly skilled in her ability to artistically capture unique images of birds, wildlife, landscapes, and scenic areas of the world. Excellent book on IR Photography by John's Scrappy (Concord, CA United States) 5 Stars
November 14, 2009
I must say that the author has put some real thought into the contents of this book. I have just started getting into IR photography and have been searching for a book on such a subject. I wanted a all-in-one type book on IR photography so that I didn't need to go out and buy separate books on each subject matter. The author has thoughtfully put together such a book and I give it a high five! You get an introduction into the process of IR photography either with filters on the lens or a IR converted camera. The author gives you all types of examples to explore in IR compositions from landscapes to closeups and even our furry little friends cats and dogs. The last third of the book digs deep into post processing using Photoshop and even adding HDR techniques to your IR images. Their our many photo examples in full color infrared and black & white to give you your own inspirations. Another nice feature to this book, there is a project at the end of each chapter for you to do from what you have read previously. You can even upload your IR workshop photo examples to a special web site for critique by others for inspiration and suggestions.

Digital Infrared Photography Photo Workshop by J. DeLapp 4 Stars

This is a beautifully designed and layed out book and provides a wealth of information on digital infrared photography. I was surprised how much other information is presented in the book about the general aspects of digital photography and photoshop techniques, which are and added plus. This would be a fine learning and reference manual for most photographers, especially those new to digital infrared photography.

Excellent Resource by Kathleen Brennan (Orinda, Ca.) 5 Stars

This is a great book and it answered all of my questions on how to work with infrared. I especially appreciated the creativity chapters in the book. I thought the author provided good instruction and beautiful examples of how to utilize an infrared camera to its fullest potential.

At last, a decent IR technique book by Timothy J. Oneill 5 Stars

After buying 7 or 8 books on IR photography, finally one that has something to share besides a bunch of the author's pictures. The author puts in chapter after chapter of valuable insights on how best to use your Infrared converted camera. I have been shooting IR for 6 years, and thought I had a handle on the whole technique. Deborah Sandidge has opened my eyes to many more possibilities for this type of photography. I got the referral for the book from Life Pixel, a company who has converted few cameras to Infrared for me in the past. A great reference source. I'm going through it for the third time, and trying the suggested exercises.

More than a book for digital Infrared photography by Carlton Ward (Portland, Or United States) 5 Stars
September 18, 2009
I enjoyed learning the technical aspects of infrared lighting and how it differs from from normal photography (including spectral graphs and histograms) and I was pleasantly surprised at all the beautiful example photos along with the camera settings she used for capturing the images. Deborah provides many tips about how to think & what to be aware of when composing to shoot for IR. It is not only a technical book about shooting in infrared, it is also a great resource of how to compose for IR (how to think the way the IR sensor will interpret the light) and landscape techniques for IR and any type of photography. She includes lots of photoshop tips, Orton effect, mirrored images, painting with light, HDR imaging (one of my favorites) and lists of useful camera equipment such as IR filters (& places to convert your DSLR for IR), lenses, tripods, software, etc... I have read & re-read many of these chapters and think of it as more of a workbook than something you read and put on the shelf. She has assignments in the chapters and a website for posting & sharing these assignments. I have read so many photography books over the years (Bryan Peterson, Jim Zuckerman, Scott Kelby, Ben Willmore) and this is my favorite book because it is loaded with useful & diverse information for any type of photography. The tips for using PhotoMatix, Photoshop & various filters is worth the price of this book alone but when she is able to get me to think "outside of the box" then she has really won me over. I am seeing things differently which has caused me to slow down and rethink my shot before I start snapping away. Some of the standard rules (landscape/3rds/shapes & patterns) still apply but she also gets you to think how these rules can be broken to capture an even better photograph. This is a great book for photography in general but it is essential for anyone wanting to learn about shooting in infrared. I think Lifepixel should include this book with every camera they convert for IR. Thank you for the wonderful book Deborah.

Digital Infrared Photography
by Cyrill Harnischmacher (Author)

To record the "invisible light" has always been an intriguing and fascinating experiment. The infrared part of the light spectrum is outside the range of what the human eye can see, but with a digital camera, we are able to record only this "invisible light" while blocking the "visible" part. The results are often unusual, yet beautiful, renderings of otherwise fairly common scenes.

Since as far back as the 1960 's artists have experimented with analog infrared photography, as seen on the...
