| Poorly written by Black spruce (Minnesota) 1 Stars November 18, 2009 Enthusiastic, one-size fits all.
There is some information that I agree with, but I'm not sure whether to trust new information because the book is so sloppily written. Blood vitamin D levels are offered as numbers without units. The references listed at the end are not connected with pages or topics; you'd have to sort through them yourself to find support for the assertions made in the text. The quiz you can take to determine your risk of D-deficiency is skewed so that almost everyone will come out "at high risk". The acid-base balancing is heavily skewed toward the diet of meat and produce that he recommends, without giving any explanation of how the point values for each food were derived, or saying what exactly is "a serving" of any food, or why he thinks cheese is the ultimate bad food. I find it especially odd that bread and pasta are separated from cereals, and that they have quite different values from each other (2,6 and 8).
One useful thing is knowing that you can get the UVI for your area from various websites to help figure out how much sun to get.
This is an ok place to start- but go on, and do more research to figure out what fits for you.

Peckinpaugh 5 Stars November 05, 2009 It boggles my mind to realize how insufficient the recommended (RDA)amount of Vitamin D VERSUS the amount your body ACTUALLY needs to fight off infection, etc etc Everyone needs to have their vitamin D levels tested and then adjust their daily intake to their own needs...one more reason becoming your own 'patient advocate' is so critical. I highly recommend this book.
| | SOLD! by K. Ulmer 5 Stars October 30, 2009 I am going to order this book today, just for the extra information. I have been reading up on Vitamin D for a long time in that my mother has osetoporosis, and I have osteopenia (10 years). I only recently started to up my Vitamin D intake. I live in Arizona, I should be getting plenty of D, however I DO use sunscreen, and that does affect your absorption.
My last Bone density, was not what I had hoped, and I decided to up the D more. From 2,000 to 6,000 a day.
The thing I am understand from reading the reviews here, is WHY my back pain is gone, and why my sciatica is gone, and why I hardly have any problems with either knee anymore...I really do believe it is the D.
BTW, the other thing I have seen happen, is my blood pressure has come down to NORMAL since on more vitamin D. Before I was very frustrated about it, and did not want to take medication for it. No one seems to believe me when I tell them this...but it is true. I have done nothing else....
Hope to continue to see BIG results. Just amazes me...and I have told alot of folk about it, and I am saying it now, and MARK MY WORD.....I DO BELIEVE THIS VITAMIN WILL BE THE NEXT CURE ALL FOR MANY MANY PROBLEMS with our health!!! I have NO doubts!

Lewis (Southfield, MI USA) 5 Stars September 22, 2009 This book gets to the point quickly about the need for increased vitamin D, magnesium and calcium and breaks down data helpful for certain populations. I found the real-life examples of patients informative and the studies interesting. If you are a bariatric,lupus or MS patient this book can help you understand the importance of eating well and how critical supplements are to your good health. My very intelligent surgeon recommended this book and I periodically refer to it to keep my eating and supplementing habits on track. I also found the book, The Magnesium Miracle very helpful. To your good health!
