Product Description
The leading textbook and professional resource on isotope geochemistry--completely updated and expanded Since its initial publication as Principles of Isotope Geology in 1977, this has been the most widely used comprehensive textbook in upper-level isotope geochemistry courses. Now in its Third Edition, Isotopes: Principles and Applications has been thoroughly updated, rewritten, reorganized, and expanded to include more than twice the content of its predecessor. Covering radiogenic, radioactive, and stable isotopes, this volume consists of five units that present fundamentals of atomic physics; dating methods for terrestrial and extraterrestrial rocks by means of radiogenic isotopes; geochemistry of radiogenic isotopes; dating by means of U, Th-series and cosmogenic radionuclides; and the fractionation of the stable isotopes of H, C, N, O, and S, as well as Li, B, Si, and Cl. Additionally, this edition provides: Expanded coverage of the U-Pb methods --the most accurate available dating technique Applications to the petrogenesis of igneous rocks Summaries of the use of isotopic data for study of the oceans New examples from the fields of archeology and anthropology Radiation-damage methods of dating including fission tracks, thermoluminescence, and electron spin resonance (ESR) Information on the dispersal of fission-product radionuclides and the disposal of radioactive waste Extensive chapter-by-chapter problems and solutions Supplemented with summaries and references in each chapter, as well as more than 450 drawings and 100 tables, this volume remains the leading resource in isotope geoscience. Broad applications in many other areas --including geochemistry, geology, meteoritics, physics, chemistry, and biology --make it indispensable throughout the natural sciences.

This book is very useful and was delivered in excellent condition after only a short period of time!

Always the best! by Jasmine (TX) 5 Stars

As the Faure's 1986 2nd version being the 'classic' isotope textbook for geology, this book improved from the older version by adding new materials and new references. It covers all of the important isotopes for geologic use including their basic geochemistry. Faure and Mensing explain everything clearly. All of the materials are nicely arranged and well written. The only issue here is that there are many typos you can find if you read carefully. I would recommond this book to geologists at all levels!

Radiogenic Isotope Geology
by Alan P. Dickin (Author)

Modern isotope geochemistry is a rapidly expanding field that has a part to play in a broad range of earth and planetary sciences - from extra-solar system processes to environmental geoscience. this new edition of a popular textbook is completely updated and places more emphasis on the uses of radiogenic isotopes in environmental earth science. The author reviews the field of radiogenic isotope geology in a concise and visual manner to provide a comprehensive introduction to the subject and...

Principles of Stable Isotope Geochemistry

Principles of Stable Isotope Geochemistry
by Zachary Sharp (Author)

This is the first dedicated book to cover the basics of a wide range of stable isotope applications in a manner appropriate for someone entering the field. At the same time, it offers sufficient detail – and numerous references and examples – to direct research for further inquiry. Discusses diverse topics such as hydrology, carbon in plants, meteorites, carbonates, metamorphic rocks, etc. Explores the theory and principles of isotope fractionation. Offers unique, up-to-date discussion of...

Stable Isotope Geochemistry

Stable Isotope Geochemistry
by Jochen Hoefs (Author)

Stable Isotope Geochemistry is an introduction to the use of stable isotopes in the geosciences. It is subdivided into three parts: theoretical and experimental principles; fractionation processes of light and heavy elements; the natural variations of geologically important reservoirs. Since the application of stable isotopes to earth sciences has grown in the last few years, a new edition appears necessary. Recent progress in analysing the rare isotopes of certain elements for instance...

Principles and Applications of Geochemistry (2nd Edition)

Principles and Applications of Geochemistry (2nd Edition)
by Gunter Faure (Author)

Designed to show readers how to use chemical principles in solving geological problems, this book emphasizes a quantitative approach to problem solving and demonstrates how chemical principles control geologic processes in atomic and large-scale environments. The book starts with basic principles and emphasizes quantitative methods of problem-solving. It uses the principles of isotope geology to enhance the understanding of appropriate geochemical subject areas. The book also examines the...

Isotope Geology

Isotope Geology
by Claude J. Allègre (Author), Christopher Sutcliffe (Translator)

Radiogenic and stable isotopes are used widely in the earth sciences to determine the ages of rocks, meteorites and archeological objects, and as tracers to understand geological and environmental processes. Isotope methods determine the age of the Earth, help reconstruct the climate of the past, and explain the formation of the chemical elements in the Universe. This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to both radiogenic and stable isotope techniques. An understanding of the basic...
