EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The principles and concepts for unsaturated soils are developed as extensions of saturated soils. Addresses problems where soils have a matric suction or where pore-water pressure is negative. Covers theory, measurement and use of the fundamental properties of unsaturated soils--permeability, shear strength and volume change. Includes a significant amount of case studies. |

| SOIL MECHANICS FOR UNSATURATED SOILS by Vukoslav E. Aguirre (Denver, CO) 5 Stars April 27, 2009 The book is a very comprehensive and well written textbook. What is particularly of value is the section on swelling soils, that lays out the theory, analysis, and expected outcomes.
All in all one of the best books on swelling soils.
| | Geotechnical fundamental by L. Sands (Around the corner) 5 Stars December 04, 2008 This book provides great depth and detail in unsaturated soil mechanics for geotechnical practitioners. It is always a reference that is used in moments of direction and confirmation. The hard cover keeps the book intact for a long life hopefully to be handed on to future generations. Due to it's size it is not a book for the field.
| | Soil Mechanics for Unsaturated Soils by Rasp Dough (BKK, Thailand) 4 Stars September 18, 2007 The book is classic. But i got the almost photocopied version book which is made me a bit upset.
| | The best book of unsaturated soil I have ever seen ! 5 Stars July 13, 2000 If you want to study unsaturated soil, this is the book that you must have. Excellent work !

| Soil Strength and Slope Stability by J. Michael Duncan (Author), Stephen G. Wright (Author)
Authoritative, state-of-the-art guidance to soil strength and slope-stability analysis Through clear, concise language and practical examples, Soil Strength and Slope Stability describes state of the art methods for evaluating soil strength, and for analysis, design and stabilization of slopes in soil. The principles of limit equilibrium analysis, and appropriate use of computer programs are emphasized. Methods are described for checking the results of complex analyses, and for...

| Soil Behaviour and Critical State Soil Mechanics by David Muir Wood (Author)
Soils can rarely be described as ideally elastic or perfectly plastic and yet simple elastic and plastic models form the basis for the most traditional geotechnical engineering calculations. With the advent of cheap powerful computers the possibility of performing analyses based on more realistic models has become widely available. One of the aims of this book is to describe the basic ingredients of a family of simple elastic-plastic models of soil behavior and to demonstrate how such models...

| Risk Assessment in Geotechnical Engineering by Gordon A. Fenton (Author), D. V. Griffiths (Author)
NEW PROBABILISTIC APPROACHES FOR REALISTIC RISK ASSESSMENT IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING. This text presents a thorough examination of the theories and methodologies available for risk assessment in geotechnical engineering, spanning the full range from established single-variable and "first order" methods to the most recent, advanced numerical developments. In response to the growing application of LRFD methodologies in geotechnical design, coupled with increased demand for risk...

| ENGINEERING ROCK MECHANICS - AN INTRODUCTION TO THE PRINCIPLES by John P Harrison (Series Editor), John A Hudson (Series Editor)
Engineering rock mechanics is the discipline used to design structures built in rock. These structures encompass building foundations, dams, slopes, shafts, tunnels, caverns, hydroelectric schemes, mines, radioactive waste repositories and geothermal energy projects: in short, any structure built on or in a rock mass. Despite the variety of projects that use rock engineering, the principles remain the same. Engineering Rock Mechanics clearly and systematically explains the key principles behind...
