EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Volcanic plumes, made up of material that has explosively erupted from a volcano, are of fundamental importance to volcanology because their deposits record the past activity of a volcano. They also pose a wide range of hazards to humans and can have significant environmental effects. | Physical Volcanology's Best Buy by B. Browne (Fairbanks, AK USA) 5 Stars September 14, 2000 Volcanic Plumes encapsulates nearly every aspect of physical volcanology that is critical to understanding the mechanics of pyroclastic transport and deposition. The book discusses modern theory of numerical, physical, and chemical modeling in an open and fair manner, taking care to present several competing schools of thought on controversial topics. In doing so, authors continually reference historical volcanologic events as case studies to illustrate how the predictions of a certain model agree with the observed phenomena very well in one instance, and not in another. This book provides the reader with a more technical and complete reference to physical volcanology than any other book on the market today. Add this to your "Volcanic Successions" (Cas and Wright), and "Encyclopedia of Volcanoes" (Sigurdsson and others) and you will have the most complete reserve of information on Volcanology that is available. A very worth while purchase.
