CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 2.5 based on 101 reviews)
| This should have been a good book by Believes (Indiana, USA) 1 Stars December 22, 2008 There are a number implausible elements about this story. For one thing women seldom (if ever?) become the violent serial killers like Tammy/Timmy. Even worse is Tammy/Timmy's unexplained, unsolved impossible sci-fi phenomenon. The two little brothers who were almost killed were sent to the hospital "to be checked over" without mentioning they would probably be mentally disturbed for the rest of their lives. That's a whole story in itself but we never hear another word about them.
The trip to Sweden and the results were bizarre. Setting the stage with FBI agents surrounding the house to capture the criminal while having house guests was insane. I had to reread that part several times to be sure I'd read it correctly. Savich and his wife are too too cuddley cuddley all the time, even "running upstairs holding hands".
More implausibilities. Sister Lily seemed to be ready to put her precious daughter's death behind her a mere seven months later. She had major surgery because of an auto accident, but ran with action full time for days as though she was a healthy athlete. She saw a psychiatrist immediately after being released from the hospital, saw her once, was hypnotized and cured. A psychiatrist simply would not do that. The dialog in the story could have been written by a high school student. Coulter must have something against the FBI because she made them look like utter fools several times. The artist at the cabin was a clown; in fact the whole scene was clownish.
I would like to say that I read the whole book because so many wrongs made for a good read, but in truth, I read the whole book because I didn't have anything else to read on a long Saturday evening. It was better than nothing, but then I could have cleaned the kitchen and the bathroom or given the cat a bath instead. I just started another Coulter book, Riptide, and it is also starting out implausibly, with goofy dialog, and what looks like a loose plot.
I have been reading books by other authors who have actually worked in the field they are writing about, the D.A.'s office, NYPD, forensics, anthropology, etc. and those authors are excellent because they have lived what they are writing about. I wonder if Coulter even knows an FBI agent.
I can't publish this review without a star, so I have to give it one star, and I can only justify that one star by saying that this is, afterall, a well bound, expensive published book with an attractive cover.
| | Hemlock Bay by Louise S. Heyza 1 Stars October 14, 2008 It has been quite awhile since I ordered this book and my understanding is that Clearbook has had some problems with someone who stole their identity. They did email me back and I gave them my name & address but still have not received the book. I believe I said I would wait but over a month is too long. I may ask them for a refund or at least send me my book. I know it is not their fault but I had to email them to find out the status. Otherwise all of the other books I ordered came in a timely manner. Louise Heyza
| | Not to be missed by T. Taylor (Lafayette, CA USA) 5 Stars August 05, 2008 Admittedly, I'm a Coulter Fan and this book in the FBI series adds still another layer to the continuing saga of Sherlock & Savich. The whole cast of characters comes alive in this story of Savich's sister. And, of course, justice prevails. This was the only one of the FBI series that I hadn't read - because I couldn't find it. And in retrospect, by missing it I missed part of the layering of stories. A good excuse to re-read the stories. There is just the right amount of tension, humor and romance to entertain anyone who likes to read.
| | Paintings in the Balance by Nash Black (Jamestown, KY) 3 Stars January 08, 2008 Dillion Savich is busy with a kidnapping case when he learns his sister Lily has driven her car into a tree. Catherine Coulter pours it on in this addition to her successful FBI series. HEMLOCK BAY adds another dimension as Tammy Tuttle reenters the picture seeking revenge.
The reading is fast paced with lots of thrills and chills as HEMLOCK BAY will keep the fans turning the pages long into the night. It isn't a question of "What happens next?" but "How soon!"
Nash Black, author of SINS OF THE FATHERS and QUALIFYING LAPS.
| | Favorite fan by Keith Webb (Ocean Isle Beach, NC) 4 Stars October 28, 2007 Her book are excellent. Hemlock Bay is of the same group as Impulse. Again, I would prefer she'd stay with this story line along with her on-going FBI series.
