CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 136 reviews)
| Fantastically read, and not your stereoptypical Nora Roberts by La Mancha (Texas) 4 Stars September 08, 2009 The way Gary Littman reads this book, alone, is worth the purchase price. I listen constantly to audio books, and I can't think of a more vivid reading. I wish he'd would record oodles more books! And this is not, to my mind, a stereotypical Nora Robert's plot. I'm no expert on her, but I've read enough of her stories to make some comparison. In fact, "Northern Lights" is a pretty good crimi/adventure story, with enough romance to please her devoted fans, I suspect. To me, it's primarily about Alaska and about the life of this town, plus its interesting residents. I'm sure much of my enthusiasm for the story comes from Mr. Littman's considerable talents as reader/performer. I shared this with a male cousin who ordinarily would not pick up such a book, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
| | Wonderful Book by Mary E. Jett (Temple, GA, USA) 5 Stars August 31, 2009 I recieved this book very quickly. It was in great condition. A very good deal for the money that I spent - much less than buying it new. It is also a wonderful story that I greatly recomend!
| | Boooorrrriiinnnnggg by Majorca 1 Stars August 22, 2009 I've read 150 pages and without a doubt this is the most boring book I've read this summer. I can barely force myself to pick it up and read a few more pages. I keep thinking something must happen eventually but frankly- I'm throwing this out now. I've wasted too much time getting this far. I usually read a book a day but have wasted four days getting this far and cannot see it ever getting any better. Not only is there no action but there is nothing about the main characters to care about. They are such stereotypes no one gives a hoot about their hangups. If the travelogue is the only thing other reviewers found appealing about this book I suggest they actually get a travel guide. It certainly would be more entertaining than this disaster.
| | Really good mystery, some romance to go with it, feel good ending, enjoyable escape. by Jane Stewart (Illinois USA) 4 Stars August 11, 2009 STORY BRIEF:
Nate was a cop in Baltimore. His partner was killed on the job. Nate felt responsible and was sad, withdrawn and depressed for months. He left Baltimore to become police chief of a small town in Alaska, hoping to further lose himself. He meets Meg who is a fiercely independent bush pilot, flying people and supplies around Alaska. She has more masculine traits than feminine and is the initiator of casual sex. Some mountain climbers discover a dead body with an axe in his chest. The body has been sitting in a cave on the mountain for 16 years. Nate's cop instincts awaken as he investigates. The murderer starts doing things to stop the investigation.
REVIEWER'S OPINION:
It was a long book and a little slow at first. But the last half made it worthwhile and kept me interested. It was an interesting group of characters. I enjoyed watching what life was like for a small town police chief, breaking up fights, taking care of drunks, dealing with teenage orneriness. Nate was a good man, taking care of his town. But when murder happened, he turned back into the tough, Baltimore cop - investigating and protecting. Solving the murder and his relationship with Meg brought him back to life.
I would have liked a little more understanding of the motivation for the murder. The love story between Nate and Meg could have used more relationship development. It started with Meg wanting casual sex and later they sort of realized they were in love. It was ok but could have used a little more sizzle. I enjoyed the Alaskan lights in the sky, the beautiful wilderness, and the lifestyle.

| | Northern Lights by Kelly (Littleton, Colorado) 4 Stars May 28, 2009 I really enjoyed this book! I have spent alot of time in Alaska, and it is the perfect setting. It is a bit unusual, but there isn't just one story being told. The current drama involves Nate Burke, the new chief of police by way of Baltimore, and Meg Galloway, a local pilot. They are oil and water, but of course it is lust at first sight. While we are following the new journey for Meg and Nate, the other story being told from the past at the same time is of Pat Galloway. Meg's father has been missing for 16 years, and we learn what happened to him all those years ago. As both stories collide, the mystery and danger escalate.
