CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 5 reviews)
| Quick and Easy life-saver by Saravanan Balakrishnan (Chennai, India) 5 Stars May 07, 2009 It is customary that an author is asked to fill 250 pages worth of content for a paperback. Sometimes, the author manages to convince the publisher to agree for something like 200 pages. At other times, if he/she is well established, he/she can even fill up the pages with "blanks", like de Bono did in "Simplicity".
But this book is 49 pages (leaving out the table of contents, references, index, etc.) of goodness. And I love it.
This book has a "life-saving" message about benefits of L-Carnitine based supplementation program. Some important details are as follows:
* Inside every cell in our body, there are components called mitochondria; heart cells have three to ten times more mitochondria than cells from other parts of the body
* You can think of mitochondria as a cell's power plants.
* Mitochondria start failing with aging. Failure in the energy production mechanism leads to many degenerative diseases.
* L-Carnitine helps in mitochondrial energy production by transporting free fatty acids (fuel) into them
* L-Carnitine also seem to assist in removing the spent fuel from mitochondria.
* Once the fuel is inside the mitochondria, other supplements like Coenzyme Q10 (a vitamin like substance), minerals, etc. help in burning the fuel.
* Supplementing L-Carnitine, along with Q10 and few other minerals/vitamins (a) improve the condition of heart muscles, (b) reduce cholesterol and triglyceride, (c) increase the general energy levels and (d) more.
I read this book several months ago and started a supplementation program similar to the one recommended in this book. Within a month of starting the program, my triglyceride level had dropped to less than half (from very high pre-treatment levels). I expect that the levels to further go down (and, perhaps, normalize) in the next two months.
The concepts in this book are now widely accepted by many doctors world over. None of these recommendations can produce any harm (provided, your supplements are not contaminated). Given these, it is very sad indeed that vast majority of the suffering public is unaware and respected press keeps talking the supplementation programs down.
| | Everyone over 40 needs this book by Merri (Houston) 5 Stars November 22, 2008 Drs. Stephen and Jan Sinatra lead the pack in cardiologists with the patient's best interests at heart - pun intended! They have done excellent research and exhibt a progressive attitude regarding the use of replenishing the body's own elements, which diminish with age, for reinforcing our natural bio-stasis. They explain why we develop deficiencies in essential amino acids, the consequences, and what to do about it. I have taken the advice in the section on Carnitine and Coenzyme Q!10 here in full, and the benefits are undeniable.
If you take prescription drugs for any cardiac or circulatory condition, you need to be informed! You can read this in a couple of short sittings.
| | L-Carnitine and the Heart by B. Stewart (Reno, Nv) 5 Stars January 06, 2007 This book is written in laypersons language. It is a companion to the book The Sinatra Solution- Metabolic Cardiology. Must have booklet if you are struggling with CHF or heart disease. My husband followed the nutritional suppliment regime and his quality of life has improved by leaps and bounds.
| | A cardiologist tells how to keep yourself healthy. by D. R. Schryer (Poquoson, VA United States) 5 Stars October 31, 2002 Cardiologist, Dr.Stephen Sinatra, is best know for his excellent book The Coenzyme Q10 Phenomenon which discusses in detail the role of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in maintaining a strong, healthy heart. While CoQ10 is indeed essential for heart health so is the less well known nutrient L-carnitine. L-carnitine is so important to our bodies -- especially our hearts -- that our bodies manufacture it every day. Unfortunately, however, many people don't manufacture enough L-carnitine to maintain optimum health and some people manufacture so little L-carnitine that their heart muscles become severly weakened for lack of it. Fortunately, L-carnitine is readily available as a nutritional supplement so that anyone who is deficient in this important nutrient can remedy this deficiency by taking supplemental L-carnitine. For people who are deficient in L-carnitine, supplementation can significantly improve their health, and for those who are severly deficienct it can even save their lives. All of this is discussed by Dr. Sinatra in highly-readable terms in this excellent book. Incidentally, L-carnitine not only helps keep our hearts healthy and gives us energy it also helps us burn fat and thus can contribute to weight loss. All health conscious people would do well to read this important book.
| | L-Carnitine & exercise go together by Jamin Condou (Whittier, California United States) 5 Stars July 28, 2000 Like his other works, Sinatra once again blends good, solid informaiton with an easy to understand style. The information he sets forth gives much credence to our need to supplement in our defense against the effects of the toxins we have dumped into our environment. As our lives get more stressful, our bodies - especially our heart - need supplements that aren't in high enough quantities in the foods we eat. Sinatra explains the necessity of L-Carnitine in maintaining healthy heart funciton. It is an advantageous supplement for exercise buffs and vital for those of us who don't exercise as much as we ought to. We are especially the ones who need to buy (and read!)Sinatra's books.

| The Sinatra Solution: Metabolic Cardiology by Stephen T. Sinatra (Author)

The synergistic combination of these energy-supplying nutrients maximizes the amount of oxygen that the heart and skeletal muscle can extract from the blood by accelerating the rate at which cells convert nutrients into energy. In "The Sinatra...
