CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 245 reviews)
| Made me think by Guillermo el Sabio (Joplin, MO) 4 Stars November 23, 2009 First off, who is this Mark Pumphrey douche bag and why is his review posted as an editorial review?
When I read this book I was a little confused at first. What kind of twist was the author trying to put on the story? After reading it all the way through I saw (and it scares me to say it)how terrorists view themselves and how we draw a line between who is a freedom fighter vs. who is a 'bad guy' that our CIA doesn't train and fund.
| | Great Entertainment by Thomas Grover (Naples, Florida) 4 Stars November 22, 2009 This book was Flynn's first novel and it is a highly enjoyable read. Full of characters from Special Forces, White House officials, Congress, the press, FBI, and CIA it is a riveting adventure story about a fictional Washington that has seemingly gone mad, but makes the reader wonder how much of what we read is perhaps not so far removed from reality. An entertaining tale, and very well written.
| | Resonates with the voter of today by J. S. Banks (Oak Island, NC) 5 Stars November 16, 2009 Although this was Flynn's first book and Mitch Rapp has yet to appear, it is one of his best. It captures the mood of a lot of the electorate today and draws one into the story immediately.
Tales of corruption in Washington are nothing new, but Flynn's method of dealing with it is action-packed and thrilling. The power-hungry, corrupt politicians are very relevent today, and the reader finds himself wishing for our own protagonist to deal with "term limits." A stunning read.
| | His writing and knowledge of the interworkings of Washington is unmatched! by Alicia (Miami, FL) 5 Stars November 12, 2009 I do not remember how I stumbled upon Vince FLYNN but after coming here and reading the reviews a couple of weeks ago I decided to start at the beginning of his work and read my way to present day. I find FLYNN to be a wonderful and insightful writer. My career allows me to be involved in Washington politics and federal government. I really don't read too many political thrillers because I sometimes feel the authors won't have accurate or real knowledge of the way things would really happen and take place (like a bad hollywood movie). It was the complete opposite with this novel and the other FLYNN novel that I'm reading now. FLYNN writes his novels from an angle where it feels like he has been working in Washington for years at all levels. I was very pleased with the way he talked about the Secret Service, special ops, politicians, reporters, etc., He leaves no aspect of the Washington "circus" untouched. I loved the real life personalities of his characters, their resemblance to the politicians of today, and the hindrances involved with partisan politics. I won't go into that too much because I don't want to reiterate what has already been said in 100 other reviews. With that said, I found this book amazing and I am so glad I bought this and (his next novel) Transfer of Power at the same time because as soon as I put this one down, I walked right into the next one as if they were the same book. This book had my heart racing and literally sitting on the edge of my seat figuring out what moves the government and its enemies will make next. I wanted to read this book in the bathroom, bath tub, red lights, lunch breaks, dinner breaks, and every free minute of everyday I had until it was done. I have not been this excited about a novel in a long time. It reminded me of the best episodes of the TV shows 24 and The Unit. I thank the author and the other readers so much for their reviews that lead me to this master writer. He is truly unmatched.
P.S. I intentionally left specifics about the novel out bc I feel you really don't need it and some of the reviews contain so much info it spoils it for you. If you love the TV series "24", thrillers, murder mysteries, or would even like a fiction view of the interworkings of US government and how people may behave if the crap hits the fan, this book is for you.
| | Entertaining First Effort -- Not for Commies or Traitors by Lao T. Sue (Virginia) 4 Stars November 03, 2009 The Library Journal's review of this book is so blatantly biased as to be laughable. Who are these people anyway? Moving on.... this book, while not the most realistic story Flynn has written, presents the themes of service, honor, and personal responsibility that he carries on throughout his later books. Perhaps that's what irritated the Commies at Library Journal..... Anyway, lighten up, everyone: it's a novel, and a pretty good story at that. It certainly held my interest. If you're reading these reviews to see whether it will hold yours as well, if you had simply purchased the book and started reading, you'd know by now.
