EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description A mesmerizing challenge to orthodox cosmology with powerful implications not only for cosmology itself but also for our notions of time, God, and human nature -- with a new Preface addressing the latest developments in the field.Far-ranging and provocative, The Big Bang Never Happened is more than a critique of one of the primary theories of astronomy -- that the universe appeared out of nothingness in a single cataclysmic explosion ten to twenty billion years ago. Drawing on new discoveries in particle physics and thermodynamics as well as on readings in history and philosophy, Eric J. Lerner confronts the values behind the Big Bang theory: the belief that mathematical formulae are superior to empirical observation; that the universe is finite and decaying; and that it could only come into being through some outside force. With inspiring boldness and scientific rigor, he offers a brilliantly orchestrated argument that generates explosive intellectual debate."Lerner does a fine job poking holes in Big Bang thinking and provides a historical perspective as well, linking scientific theories to trends in philosophy, politics, religion and even economics...a most readable book." -- Chicago Tribune |

| Plasma more likely than a singularity by Chas Pick 4 Stars August 11, 2009 Just some coments from a casual reader interested in this subject. I purchased this book to get another view on this BB theory because I become mentally nauseous being bombarded by the Science Channel, etc. and other media with this, to me, outrageous BB paradigm..... stating the whole universe came from a particle less than the size of an atom. I'm aware all in science does not have to make sense - but this - no way am I believer. The Big Bang Never Happened does present another more rational option for our existence. The question remains as to where the originating plasma came from. Lerner did not address this aspect. But it's easier for me to believe plasma pre-existed than the whole universe came from something smaller than an atom. Do not highly educated scientists need to use their common sense? End of rant. This book does present a great quantity of good and factual information on many related subjects, including the politics & religeous pressures of scientific advancement. I found Bye Bye Big Bang by William C. Mitchell (http://www.amazon.com/Bye-Big-Bang-Hello-Reality/dp/0964318814/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1250007610&sr=8-1) to be meaningful in condemning the red shift basis for the supposed expansion of the universe upon which the BB is based. Apparently there is "something" in the vacuum (of space and everywhere) which shifts light to a lower frequency, especially over long distances, rather than the touted expansion of the universe. That something is currently a mystery, but it's answer could be discovered in some aspect of quantum physics, some day. Perhaps, just perhaps, the book, "Entangled Minds: Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality" by Dean Radin and other books similar to this subject matter might offer a strong clue on this question.
| | Lets get back to SCIENCE by P. Hofman 5 Stars June 15, 2009 I have read this book several times through. The main point I wish to share is that science has been led astray by a a cadre of scientists, mainly theorists who believe the "elegant" equation must supplant observational evidence. Further, for those of you who criticize this work for being outdated, if you care to go to the author's website you will find he has kept up to date with new data and observations. And yes, he presents refutation of the current 'establishment' attempts to patch up the Big Bang {'Holy Grail'} models of the relativist camps. As other reviewers have stated in one way or another- lets return to REAL science. This title tries to get this point across. Whether you agree with the author on his model or not, for science to progress people must be open minded to have the scientific discipline to evaluate data and observation that is not consistent with your theory. { after note- good luck Mr Lerner on your fusion research. Fusion is the answer to our energy needs, not to mention it would also not upset environmentalists and importantly stop the 'oil game' with terror sponsoring countries.}
| | the big bang never happened by Thomas F. Odell (Prescott, Arizona USA) 5 Stars May 02, 2009 Eric Lerner has it right. His book is the best that I have read on cosmology. He makes more sense than all of the big bang theorists put together. We need more like him.
| | The formation of the universe explained beyond myths by Guy Denutte (Cali, Colombia) 5 Stars February 13, 2009 In the dark ages we live in the scientific truth is sometimes very difficult to trace. I came across this book by accident - thanks to searching amazon, really - and the way I see the world from then on has changed completely. What most disturbed me was the fact that this theory was never, ever explained to me when I went to high school or college. Instead, nowadays it appears that in a lot of American schools creationism is being taught instead of evolution of the species...
In this book, Eric Lerner explains all the flaws of the Big Bang-theory, and there are a lot of them. Personally, I never could get over the point that the Big Bang-theory requires that all mass in the universe was once condensed to a single point, so small it would be invisible for the human eye. This surely needs a divine intervention, and, well, I don't believe in God. So I always had a problem with this weird theory. The Big Bang-theory is also unable to explain the no homogeneity of the universe; we see no uniform expansion as a result from an explosion in a single point, but filaments instead. As if is this is not berserk enough, the Big Bang-theory also requires a lot of other "tricks", like *hypothetical* Higgs fields, the *never observed* disintegration of protons, the *undetectable* dark mass, *mysterious wormholes*, etc. This is no theory, this is a myth. Stephen Hawking is clear that in the end he goes after the "mind of God" : "If we do discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable in broad principle by everyone, not just a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists, and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason - for then we would truly know the mind of God."
For people who are happy with the human mind we have, but are still curious to know where the universe came from, there is an alternative that doesn't require believing in God. It is called the plasma cosmology, first proposed by Nobel Prize winner Hannes Alfvèn. More than 99% of the universe is plasma : hot, ionized and electrical conductive gases. Lerner says : "In ordinary gases, electrons are bound to an atom and cannot move easily, but in a plasma the electrons are stripped off by intense heat, allowing them to flow freely. Extrapolating from the behavior of such plasma in the laboratory, plasma cosmologists envision a universe crisscrossed by vast electrical currents and powerful magnetic fields..." This theory considers the filaments we observe in the universe to be part of a universal "cosmic power grid". This theory parts from the principle that the universe has always existed, and that the galaxies as we see them have emerged out of the plasma.
Furthermore, plasma cosmology considers gravity as the natural force it really is : a weak force, that emerged later, once condensation of mass occurs. Here is another flaw of the Big Bang theory, which needs gravity as a primary force in the formation and evolution of universes, whereas plasma cosmology starts from the beginning, from the stronger electromechanical forces.
What is most appealing of the plasma cosmology is that it not only explains all phenomenons at cosmological scale with known laws of nature, but is also capable reproducing the formation and evolution of galaxies at laboratory scale. Lerner explains : "... the stately processes of the cosmos, ranging from auroras lasting hours to prominences lasting days to galaxies lasting billions of years, can all be modeled in the lab by rapid discharges lasting millionths of a second."
A must read for everybody unwilling to believe in myths.
| | objective critique by Bobby Ticer 5 Stars February 12, 2009 Big Bang Theory is the leader of cosmology. That is because it took center state with no other theory completed to replace it. It is easier to explain phenomena in a finite universe. In a tired light theory, for instance, the energy from light needs to somehow be recycled. The plasma theory in this book I do not consider complete, either. However, so far BBT really hasn't predicted anything without an ad hoc slant, and I agree with this book its followers ignore evidence BBT is unable to explain. It still does, as with the quantization discovered of the red shift in the Hubble constant. There are 12 or more versions of BBT in await to explain results from the next satellite observations (another ad hoc slant). Why snuff out other alternatives? This book offers a promising one based on observation and fact.

| Dark Matter, Missing Planets and New Comets: Paradoxes Resolved, Origins Illuminated Second Edition by Tom Van Flandern (Author)
Tom Van Flandern's book adds a new dimension to cosmology--not only does it present a novel approach to timeless issues, it stands up to the closest scientific scrutiny. Even the most respected scientists today will readily admit that the Big Bang Theory is full of holes. But it takes a new look, like Dark Matter, Missing Planets, and New Comets, to explain not only why the theory is wrong but what to substitute in its place. If you are curious about such things as the nature of matter and the...

| Seeing Red: Redshifts, Cosmology and Academic Science by Halton Arp (Author)
Arp's new book is a frontal assault on the standard model of the universe, replete with anecdotes and illustrations, including 8 pages of colour plates. "Seeing Red" represents a senior scientist's personal account of the crisis in moderrn astronomy. Dr. Arp presents observations showing that extragalactic redshifts are not caused by an expanding universe. He crafts up an empirical picture of the birth and evolution of quasars and galaxies, demonstrating that crucial observations...

| The Cosmic War: Interplanetary Warfare, Modern Physics and Ancient Texts by Joseph P. Farrell (Author)
This work presents the full history of the Exploded Planet hypothesis. There is ample evidence across our solar system of cataclysmic and catastrophic destruction events, and many planets are scarred from incredible impacts, and teeter in their orbits from unexplained causes. Rejecting naturalist and materialist assumptions of catastrophism forwarded by other researchers, Farrell seriously asserts that the causes are based in ancient myths of a Cosmic War in the heavens. Incorporating...
