Product Description Illus. in full color. Brian finds a salamander and takes him home. "Wherewill he sleep?" asks his mother. Her "inquiries are answered with imaginativesolutions that will be familiar to all those who have tried to convince aparent to let them have a pet. Johnson's lush, shadowy paintings depict eachaddition to the cumulative scenario as Brian's cozy bedroom is graduallytransformed into a dark green forest that overflows the pages as the fantasybecomes more elaborate. This is a beautifully designed mood piece."--SchoolLibrary Journal. |

Awesome Book! by Lisa K. Curnutt (La.) 5 Stars June 09, 2009
My son is in 5th grade. This was one of his favorites when he was little.
We just ordered one for his little 1st grade reading buddy that he reads
to in school weekly. A goodbye gift since my son is moving to middle
school. I love it because it shows a child how awesome the imagination can be.(A rare thing these days.) I put my son's book up. It is one of
those they will want for their kids!

If only I could do that in my room by Kenza Temsamani (Santa Cruz, CA) 5 Stars December 19, 2007 I have bought this book at least three times, either as a gift or because I had lost it. I use it in teaching Creative Movement as a relaxing, imaginative ending. I love how the child continues to imagine and the mother allows his imagination to soar free.

Life Full Of Imagination by Child Care Provider (Normal, IL) 5 Stars December 01, 2006 The Salamander Room has a great expression of the creativeness of a child's mind. This book is an amazing story for children. In this story a young boy, Brian finds a salamander while exploring the forest and takes it home. Like most mothers, his is worried how he will care for his new friend. Brian's mother asks him many questions concerning the care for this unusual house guest. For every question Brian has an answer. With every answer Brian finds that it's better to bring Nature in to make his friend comfortable and feel right at home. As a mother I appreciated the author's expression of how creative a child's mind can be. This book also demonstrates how amazing children really are. My children and I enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it in every child's library.
