simply awesome by God Of War (New York, NY) 5 Stars

If you are a beginner star gazer like me and know nothing about stars and planetary location, this book will guide you to open up your eyes to the wonderful unknown world. It is detailed but will not overwhelm you with information like so many other books out there. I highly recommend to others.

This is way you should start out with visual astronomy. Period. Trust me on this. I read dozens of books when I first started out. This one is THE #1 BEST. Start here FIRST.

This was the first (of many) astronomy books I have purchased. Nothign else comes close to the way Terence Dickeson explains and walks you through the begins of a great hobby. Highly recommended and any other books Terence Dickenson has authored or co-authored.

Just what I was looking for. by RCola (HB, CA) 4 Stars

This books is what I expected from other good reviews. I haven't been able to read all of it, but have reviewed selected parts and looking forward to being able to read more. I'm just started to get into astronomy, so this should be a great resource for a while. I like the way the book is organized and starts with the very basics, but progresses into much more advanced subjects.

Terry Dickenson hits another one out of the park with this fantastic latest edition of Nightwatch! A fantastic stand-alone work, or a supreme companion piece to Dickenson's other landmark volume, The Backyard Astronomer's Guide, this book was meant to be used! Made of high quality gloss paper and spiral-bound to lay flat, Nightwatch was built from the ground-up to be a field guide to the young (and young-at-heart) amateur astronomer. Terry covers soup-to-nuts in his books, keeping things very simple and straight-forward. He covers everything from equipment to viewing conditions (including a very informational section of the growing problem of light-pollution), what sort of equipment to buy (or avoid), and some top-notch star maps! These latter are the "meat 'n taters" of Nightwatch, and the primary reason the book was designed the way it is. The pages withstand light-to-moderate dewing without curling the pages, and because it lays flat you can use the book as a field guide to help navigate the nighttime heavens. No serious amateur (or amateur-to-be) astronomer should be without Nightwatch being within arm's reach on a clear night. Together with TBAG and Br. Guy Consolmagno's Turn Left at Orion: A Hundred Night Sky Objects to See in a Small Telescope--and How to Find Them, they make the "Amateur Astronomer's Trifecta" and a worthwhile investment for any star-gazing library!

Orion Moon Filter, 13% Transmission, 1.25"

Orion Moon Filter, 13% Transmission, 1.25"
by Orion

The Moon's disk, even at partial phases, is intensely bright with reflected sunlight. The glare washes out most of the craters, rilles, and other surface details from view. Our Moon Filter reduces the glare, allowing transmission of only 13% of the reflected light. Not only will you see more surface features, but you can study them in greater comfort. The filter reduces irradiation, which is the distortion at the boundary between light and dark areas, such as along the lunar terminator. The...

The Night Sky 30°-40° (Large; North Latitude)

The Night Sky 30°-40° (Large; North Latitude)
by David S. Chandler (Author), David Chandler Company (Editor), Milky Way by Don Davis (Editor)

The Night Sky is a rotating star finder (planisphere) that allows the user to recognize the constellations for any time of night, any day of the year. The sky appears to rotate (due to the rotation and orbital motion of the earth), so to be successful recognizing the constellations a beginner needs to know which stars are above the horizon at any time.

This is the full-sized version of The Night Sky suitable for the 30°-40° latitude zone (southern half of the US, North Africa, Middle...
