| Book for caregivers like me by Vonda Skelton 5 Stars October 26, 2009 In the past few months, my sister has died of cancer, my mother has been diagnosed with cancer, and I've had several friends develop cancer. I've gone without sleep, changed adult diapers, and done CPR on my mother. It's been a hard year. Cecil Murphey's book was a gift, given to me at just the right time. It was encouraging to see my feelings verbalized and validated. And even though I knew it in my heart, this book confirmed that I'm not alone. Thank you, Cecil Murphey. Your book truly was a comfort and encouragement to a tired, struggling caregiver.

| | Outstanding guide filled with encouragement and advice by Christina Lockstein (Oconto Falls, WI USA) 5 Stars July 31, 2009 When Someone You Love Has Cancer by Cecil Murphey couldn't have come at a better time for me. Three days before I received the email about this book, I got word that my uncle's cancer had come back. As someone who is living this right now, this book is perfect. It's short and an incredibly easy read, perfect for anyone who's facing the horrible news but doesn't want to spend hours paging through a book filled with statistics and dry advice. Murphey's book has short anecdotes with down to earth wisdom for the family and friends of cancer sufferers. Some of the advice may seem like common sense, but when your life is turned upside down, common sense is remarkably rare. Each chapter ends with a short prayer for understanding and strength. The most important advice given is for caregivers to just listen and be present for those facing cancer, something that I needed to hear. This book offers hope in the midst of a frightening time. Now that I've finished reading it, I will be passing it on to my mom, and I'm sure that she will pass it on as well. It's that kind of book.
| | A must for anyone wanting to be of help to a cancer patient by Linda Rondeau (Malone, New York) 5 Stars July 25, 2009 "I felt helpless," Cec writes in his introduction. He has compiled this book because he has experienced the uncertainty that the diagnosis brings. When his wife received the news, he could do little. "I felt powerless and empty. I did for her the only thing I could--and I did it for me as well--prayed."
The book not only contains anecdotes of personal experiences from family and friends of the suffering, put also contains practical advice to equip those who love cancer patients to be more in tune with things they can do and things they should avoid doing.
Beautifully illustrated by Michael Sparks, the book is designed for easy reading, divided into ten meditations from various viewpoints, relatives, spouses, and friends.
| | A must read book for anyone who has a loved one with cancer by Carolyn A. Driver (Atlanta, GA U.S.A.) 5 Stars July 02, 2009 The beautiful book, When Someone You Love Has Cancer, by Cecil Murphey, is a "must" read book for anyone who has a loved one with cancer.
The book, When Someone You Love Has Cancer, has relevant content and the illustrations are comforting and soothing. It's like taking a walk thru an art gallery.
As a cancer survivor, I wish my family and friends had a copy when I was in the midst of dealing with cancer.
