Product Description
New York Times bestselling author Vince Flynn returns with his most explosive political thriller yet. A tour de force of action-packed suspense, Protect and Defend delivers an all-too-realistic and utterly compelling vision of nations navigating the minefield of international intrigue. A true heavyweight in the political thriller arena (Minneapolis Star Tribune), Vince Flynn has created a flesh-and-blood hero that readers can cheer for and a finger-blistering page-turner they won t dare put down.In Protect and Defend, the action begins in the heart of Iran, where billions of dollars are being spent on the development of a nuclear program. No longer willing to wait for the international community to stop its neighboring enemy, Israel launches one of the most creative and daring espionage operations ever conceived. The attack leaves a radioactive tomb and environmental disaster in the middle of Iran s second largest city. An outraged Iranian government publicly blames both Israel and the United States for the attack and demands retribution. Privately, Iran s bombastic president wants much more. He wants America and Israel to pay for their aggression with blood.Enter Mitch Rapp, America s top counterterrorism operative. Used to employing deception, Rapp sees an opportunity where others see only Iranian reprisals that could leave thousands of Americans dead. Rapp convinces President Josh Alexander to sign off on a risky operation that will further embarrass the Iranian government and push their country to the brink of revolution. As part of the plan, CIA director Irene Kennedy is dispatched to the region for a clandestine meeting with Azad Ashani, her Iranian counterpart. But Rapp isn t the only one hatching plans. Iranian President Amatullah, has recruited Hezbollah master terrorist Imad Mukhtar to do his dirty work. For decades Mukhtar has acted as a surrogate for Iran, blazing a trail of death and destruction across the Middle East and beyond. When Kennedy s meeting with Ashani goes disastrously wrong, Rapp and Mukhtar are set on a collision course that threatens to engulf the entire region in war. With the clock ticking, Rapp is given twenty-four hours, no questions asked, to do whatever it takes to stop Mukhtar, and avert an unthinkable catastrophe.

"Someone" has to do it! by S. P. Marceau (Kerrville, TX USA) 5 Stars

Flynn just keeps the hits coming! He has created one of my very favorite characters (Mitch Rapp). Rapp just wants to do what's right, get the job done and leave the politics to folks with nothing more important do. He continues to grow as a character while aging realistically. I love his attitude and am impressed with his "growth" as a person. His "manners" have improved and he thinks before speaking...sometimes! Please, Mr. Flynn, keep them coming!

Another good V. Flynn Book by Harry M. Shin (Livermore, CA USA) 4 Stars

1. I'll let the others describe in detail why this book is good, but the bottomline is that it's another solid / entertaining book via V. Flynn.

Vince Flynn is a marvelous writer. He captures the reader's emotions on the first page. One is never disappointed with the content, plot, intrigue, and sheer pleasure gleaned from reading his books. They are all winners. If you want a fast, moving read...buy Flynn.

First disappointment from Flynn by D. Morgan (Seattle, WA) 2 Stars
July 29, 2009
I've been a fan of Vince Flynn's works since 'Term limits', and this book is very disappointing. In spy movies, novels and tv shows, there is always a sign the writers are running out of ideas when they pull the old and worn out plot device of the good guy's boss getting kidnapped, and its 'no holds barred!' (yawn). Vince, you really should be ashamed to have cranked this out. Utterly predictable, unsurprising and lacking in the usual suspense and imagination (of Rapp's killing/interrogation methods). I would have given less stars but I found the portrayal of Iran's President to be pretty amusing as a loudmouth prancing stooge chickenpoop! Nonetheless, this marks the place where I start getting Flynn's works from the library before just purchasing them offhand as I used to. Hoping the next Rapp will be better.

Appropriate With Our World Events by S. Ewing 4 Stars

Vince Flynn obviously wrote this novel with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad in mind because the Iranian president in the novel is identical in every aspect to Ahmedinejad. The relevancy and gravity of what it suggests is very fitting for our times, and that's what makes this novel great. The only negative thing I have to say is that Flynn's writing seems slightly lacking in this novel, almost as though he rushed. Most of his novels in the Mitch Rapp series are exciting yet plausible. This one, however, failed to engage and excite as much as most others and at times was a bit ridiculous. I won't be more specific. I'll let you make your own decision. Would I recommend this novel? Yes, but not to someone for whom it would be their first impression of Vince Flynn, because he has written many other novels much better than this one. Still, it was enjoyable and classic Mitch Rapp theater.
