Really Enjoyed This Book of Surprises by Micki Sannar (Highland, Ut) 5 Stars
October 20, 2009
When I was doing some research for a healthy dessert cookbook I was writing, I purchased every book I could find on the subject of olive oil. When I received Cal Orey's book in the mail, I poured over it and learned many things about olive oil that I never expected to learn. I even put some of it to practice, by sharing it with a friend who was terminally ill with cancer. His mouth was constantly dry and when I brought him a bottle of fresh pressed EVOO, he laughed. However as he took his first swirl, he never stopped thanking me for introducing him to olive oil. He said that it was the only thing that kept his mouth from drying out and cracking. For this very sick man, it was a Godsend all the way to the end of his lifer. I especially appreciate the Author's viewpoint on olive oil and love to read books which share personal experiences. It often gives the reader an inside view of why the Author wrote the book in the first place. I love that Cal touches on the subject of red wine vinegar in the book as well. Often olive oil and vinegar are coupled together, so I considered this little section an added bonus.. I enjoyed her shared health advice, recipes, and tips. There are so many surprising uses for olive oil and I was happy to read a book which shared it in such a light and personal way. The book was packed with information, yet was so easy to understand. In conclusion, a book I purchased to learn about the health benefits of heart happy olive oil became a treasure chest of fun, as I began to learn and implement some of her tips and recipes. I highly recommend this book to the beginner, and advanced food lover, or health seeker alike. I believe in the health benefits of this fantastic liquid gold. I am, living proof that it works. In the past 7 years I have dropped 100 points from my cholesterol, just by making a few small changes and the least of them was converting most every fat I consume to olive oil. And yes, that includes desserts! I enjoyed reading this quick, educational, & fun read and hope you do to Micki Sannar Author Olive Oil Desserts: Delicious and Healthy Heart Smart Baking

Mostly good info, with some bad sources & useless filler. by LC 4 Stars

The information on the usefulness of olive oil in this book for the most part is good material and worth reading, but I could not give five stars because I seriously have to question the rest of the useless information. I have a problem with bits and pieces of Chapters 2 and 3. #1 Too much repetitive information pertaining to the oils use in Catholic & Orthodox religion in general. #2 For someone with a graduate degree, I know she knows better than to quote information from Wikipedia, which occurs on more than one occasion. Who lists "a variety of others sources and web sites" as a source? No university professor would ever accept this type of sourcing; all reasons to question the history and research. #3 Why exactly are Olive Oyl (the cartoon character) and a martini considered "golden secrets" anyway, it's popular culture. #4 The information on Witchcraft and Wicca (as if their synonymous) is more than incorrect, the author actually compared it to the show Charmed and the movie Practical Magic. haha She even goes to some length to include a "spell," the magic is not in the "spell." She just spends too much time trying to justify the importance of olive oil with a lot that reads to be filler.

Olive Oil is Amazing by L. Marshall 5 Stars
August 12, 2009
I have always heard of the healing powers of olive oil so decided to try it for other uses than cooking and salads. I used it straight from the bottle on my face and hands. They felt so soft and smooth. I will keep on using it for softer skin! Also, this book is full of great recipes and other wonderful hints.

Olive Oil is a Super Food You Really Ought to Know More About by Daniel R. Morris (Nashville, TN) 5 Stars

I've not written a book review before (well I don't remember writing one, anyway), but after reading this book I not only decided to write a review, but I also recommend it on our website (http://www.benefits-of-resveratrol.com). I got it because I was told I ought to eat a spoonful of olive oil everyday as part of my diet. How strange is that diet request? Well I thought I'd better learn something before doing it. This book opened up my eyes to the amazing powers of olive oil. I think I'd do an injustice to the author to give some of it away, but definitely encourage you to learn all that it says AND incorporate it into your life. :-)
