Product Description
Why was this a #1 bestseller in Canada in 2002? Because it is an easy-to-follow, easy-to-stick-to, truly healthy approach to eating that is based on the Glycemic Index, the original science behind The Zone Diet, but eliminates that diet's complexity and tendency to leave dieters wanting more. If you can understand a traffic light, you can understand this diet--and lose weight permanently without feeling hungry, counting calories, or jeopardizing your health. If a food is in the green column, eat it. If it's in the red column, avoid it. And if it's in the yellow column, proceed with caution. Take bread, for example. White bread, with its high G.I. number, is red-because it's so highly processed the body digests it quickly, resulting in a spike in blood sugar, a release of insulin, potential storage as fat, and a quick return of the hungry feeling. Low-G.I. 100% stone-ground whole-wheat bread is green-the body takes a while to digest it, with no spike in blood sugar and a much longer feeling of satiety. Green, yellow, red: It's all here, with a full explanation of how the diet works, plus ratings for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, eating out or eating in. Includes some recipes, snack ideas, a shopping list, and tips on dining out.

GI is the Way to go by Sheer Balance "Brett" (Cambridge) 4 Stars

This book is extremely effective and very true in its philosophy. I love the red, yellow and green light coding as it really simplifies the concept for individuals. The graphics, too, are helpful. Anyone who follows this diet will easily understand basic concepts of eating healthy and will lose extra weight, without counting calories...how wonderful is that? I received the wrong book. I wanted the paper back version. Can I return the hard back and reorder the paper back version? The hard back does not have the receipes that are in the paper back version. Thank you. Clover Williams

Just In Time by D. DAVIS 5 Stars

Shortly after my book arrived I found out I am diabetic. This book makes my food choices so easy. It is just like a stop light. RED (bad for me), YELLOW (use rarely),GREEN (what I can have with no problems). Each page that has food on it is set up this way. Also explains in understandable terms what the glycemic index is and how it works. Good food plan for anyone no matter what issues they have with a diet or just plain eating right. DO I like it that most all the foods I like the most are in the RED column? No, of course not. But I just ignore that column.

You'd be better off getting the 3 hour diet by MSB 1 Stars

I just had my 4th baby in May and was hoping this would be easy to implement for me to do proper food combing while breastfeeding and also losing weight. I have the 3 hour diet and have done the zone in the past after my first baby so food combing is not something new to me and I know it works. The reason I got this book was the red light green light system. I thought it would be nice to just glance and be able to eat. But I don't feel that in comparison to the other books that this book gives enough guidance at all as to what you can eat. And I find myself referring to the 3 hour diet for more guidance than this book provides. I also found it disturbing how much the author suggests using sugar substitutes in foods. I have no desire to eat those chemicals, or put them in my body in lieu of natural sugar. A great natural alternative to chemicals is Agave Nectar. And it's low GI. I wonder why the author doesn't mention using that instead of harmful chemicals? Can you use this to lose weight, yes you surely can. But it's much more restrictive than the 3 hour diet, so I'd highly recommend going with that book either instead of or along with this one if you are looking to eat properly.

Good book for beginning the diet by K. Schemmel (Colon, MI United States) 3 Stars

This book is helpful to give you an idea of what to eat for the low GI diet. It has some sample recipes but needs sample menus too. There are food lists with green, yellow or red lights which are easy to follow. However, it is not very extensive and I am looking for more informative lists with actual values now. Still, it's a good starting point.
