CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 3 reviews)
| GIST Review by Vanessa C (USA) 4 Stars February 26, 2009 After reading this book, I gained a lot of useful information about Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors, what they are, treatment types, success stories as well as not so good ones. The reading was at times technical but all in all, I would recommend it to anyone who's looking to become informed about second opinions, questions to ask, and how to make better choices.
| | Very detailed book by Rene Carrillo (Miami, FL USA) 4 Stars February 12, 2009 This is an excellent book. I hope it will reach anyone who just found out he/she has GIST, and his/her family members (I found out about it after my Mom's surgery, and there were pre-surgery details which would have helped us). Read the information carefully, but remember to stay positive. Medical advances are happening quickly, and I'm sure a cure will soon be found. GOD bless.
| | Finally, a book about my type of cancer! by Diana L. Morrissey (South Glens Falls, NY) 4 Stars May 17, 2007 I am so excited that there now exists a book that describes my cancer. I was diagnosed with GIST last fall and was experiencing a dearth of information in printed form (other than the internet) about GIST. For those of you (probably most of you) who don't know, GIST stands for Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumor. It is a rare cancer, but thankfully we GIST patients have two medications (one being Gleevec) that we can take as our chemotherapy. This book was written by a doctor at Sloan Kettering (where I have gone for treatment) and a doctor at Dana Farber, the two best-known cancer centers in the country. I plan to write a book someday about my experiences with GIST (I also have Multiple Sclerosis) but in the meantime, those of us "blessed" with this type of cancer now have a place to go for information and reassurance that this is not a death sentence. A big thank you to the authors and to Amazon for carrying this.
