Amazon.com Review
If you don't get home until six or later and still need to get dinner on the table, this is the book for you. The Vegetarian 5-Ingredient Gourmet pares down ingredients to their simplest and most flavorful form. "Keeping things simple takes the frantic quality--and pressure--out of preparing a meal," says author Nava Atlas. "Simplifying helps you to slow down and enjoy the process of cooking." Atlas devotes a whole chapter to tofu and soy products, including seitan and packaged products like soy "hot dogs" and "sausage." She also has a chapter on "Rudimentary Wraps," which includes recipes for Avocado and Ricotta Soft Tacos, Goat Cheese and Red Pepper Wraps, and the ever popular Black Bean Burrito (spice them with green chiles). Pasta is a quick and easy favorite. Keep jarred sauce on hand and you have the beginnings of Pasta with Triple Red Sauce or Pasta with Olive Sauce. Serve veggie burgers on whole-grain buns with a side of Creamy Coleslaw or Baked Barbecued Tofu and Potato Kebabs for an easy weeknight meal. Or try Asian Sesame-Soy Noodles paired with Broccoli and Tofu in Peanut Sauce. Every recipe includes a nutritional breakdown including calories, fat, protein, carbohydrates, cholesterol, and sodium. Nearly every recipe has suggestions for what to pair the dish with and on what page to find it. This is an especially handy cookbook for time-crunched families. The food is easy, quick, healthy, and doesn't require great concentration to prepare. --Dana Van Nest

way too simple by Betsy (PA, USA) 2 Stars

I purchased this based on the positive reviews and have to say that I'm greatly disappointed in the recipes in this book. They are all way too simple and are directed towards folks who don't like to cook or who are just learning how to read recipes and prepare meals on their own. You could not eat a well balanced vegetarian lifestyle based on these recipes. This would be a good cookbook for someone fresh out of college living on their own or even for a teenager who has decided to be a vegetarian and needs to prepare their own meals separate from the rest of the family. It is not geared towards feeding a family at all. The recipes require little preparation which I"m sure is appealing to some but really you can't call it gourmet by no means! I personally love to cook and I make a real effort to balance my proteins in my meals as a vegetarian and I really just don't feel that this cookbook can meet those needs at all. It's way too simplified for anyone who is comfortable in the kitchen.

Exactly what I was looking for! Simple, delicious recipes with wonderful variety. This book is a comprehensive book of easy, healthy, and delicious recipes. The food in this book really does shine. The recipes are delicious and simple and the ingredients are all simple to find and inexpensive! If you're short on time, don't like grocery shopping or are intimidated by vegetarian cookery, this book is exactly what you're looking for. This has turned out to be one of my favorite cookbooks and I'm not even a vegetarian. If you enjoyed this book, I strongly recommend these other books: The Golden Age Vegetarian Cook Book Vital Facts about Foods: Included: 200 + Longevity recipes & 250 Food Analyses References Vegan Vitality: 100 Vegan Recipes And A One-Stop Explanation Of The Power Of Veganism: The No Compromise Vegan Diet For Vitality, Energy And Sustainability!

The Vegetarian 5-Ingredient Gourmet is a delight! This wonderful book is filled with superb ideas, methods and simple recipes for the person on the go; this book serves vegetarians well by offering truly tasteful, healthy recipes that we can enjoy either as a main course or side dish while not spending hours in the kitchen. It also provides our cookbook library a great comprehensive reference book for a variety of topics from learning more about no-so-commonly used veggies to tried and true techniques in creating the perfect accompaniments. Also some of the recipes has suggestions for what to pair the dish with. Well done! This cookbook is a complete, comprehensive guide to cooking vegetarian. This book is truly useful for those that are interested in becoming vegetarians, or even vegans. It's definitely one of the first books I would recommend to those moving from meat to meatless. There are a couple of others that you could also read and gain a wealth of knowledge and recipes from: 221 New Vegetarian Dishes Delicious, Healthy And Easy - Tom's Vegetarian Cookbook: Easy Yummy And Nutritional Vegan Recipes The Black Art Of Cooking: The Raw Truth The Golden Age Vegetarian Cook Book Vital Facts about Foods: Included: 200 + Longevity recipes & 250 Food Analyses References For each of these books you can rely on, I love vegetables, and everything I have tried in these books was just great. In fact, between them all, I have really come to rely on them book not only for recipes, but for reference as well.

I haven't tried the recipes yet , but they seem a little boring. Very easy to do however, as there are few ingredients.
