| Best Book for Cardiology by Jason 5 Stars May 10, 2009 This book is #1 on my Top 10 List of All-time Best Medical Texts. I first read this book as an undergraduate during the summer after anatomy and physiology. I might have understood about 5% of it since my medical vocabulary was limited, but I was able to read it because of the clarity of its prose. I read it again in PA school and fell in love with it because it explains the 'how' and the 'why' underlying cardiac physiology and pathophysiology. Most texts I read simply state the facts and do not explain 'how' a disease creates clinical manifestations, 'how' an invasive therapeutic intervention is performed, etc. This book does all of that, and does it in a clear and succinct manner. The only shortcoming of this text is its EKG section; it is simply an introduction to EKGs and is not sufficient for learning how to interpret them.
| | Excellent resource for MS-II by Med_student_1 5 Stars April 16, 2009 This is a well written text, which can be read - and more importantly, understood - in a couple of days.
The text does a nice job of reviewing the physiology of the heart, in the context of each disease process. It repeats important points of the physiology throughout each chapter, such that you've got a generally good understanding of the reading by the time you finish the book. Lilly also provides enough pathology and treatment content to give a full picture of each disease. It does not, however, give extremely detailed pathology on each topic.
For a second year medical student, this text was sufficient to master the content of cardiac pathophysiology. I would strongly recommend it for that purpose.
| | Greatest Med Student book ever!!! For Cardiology that is... by M. Marie 5 Stars April 10, 2009 This book is a lifesaver! It should be retitled, "Pathophysiology of Hear Disease...for dummies." lol. It offers great explanations of concepts in cardiology. Every med student's dream come true...
| | Thourough and succinct by J. Lawson (New Mexico) 4 Stars January 23, 2009 This is a very good review of the subject that is thorough, yet succinct and up-to-date.
| | Amazing! by Allison Stasiuk (Winnipeg, MB) 5 Stars May 12, 2008 I love this textbook (as much as you can love a textbook). This is the bible for your cardiology block. I've read it cover to cover and think it's probably the best textbook (by far) I own. Not only does it provide information in a concise fashion, but it explains it very well too.
