EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
This Second Edition of Dr. Katz's highly acclaimed text has been thoroughly revised to incorporate the latest advances in the study and treatment of heart failure. The book explains the pathophysiology, molecular mechanisms, clinical manifestations, and therapy of heart failure in an integrated, reader-friendly manner that is accessible to both clinicians and basic scientists. More than 100 illustrations, most created for this book by the authors, complement the text. This edition has been completely reorganized. Chapters describe the hemodynamic basis for the clinical manifestations of heart failure; the neurohumoral responses in heart failure and key signaling pathways that mediate functional responses; the proliferative responses in failing hearts; the cellular and molecular abnormalities in the failing heart; the rationale for various therapeutic approaches; and the management of specific groups of patients. The chapters on therapy have been written by a noted clinician, Marvin A. Konstam.

Well written and easy to read by Dr. Thunder Jalili (Salt Lake City, Utah) 5 Stars

This is a unique book, it focuses on heart failure and is very accurately described by it's title. I found it to be surprisingly easy to read. The strength of this book is that it does a good job integrating background info on normal cardiac physiology and molecular biology with the alterations that occur during heart failure. The author often employs a philosphical approach with many quotes from philosophy and theater that are meant to give the reader "something to chew on" before embarking on the chapter at hand. Some may find this approach distracting, however I personally found it refreshing. The book does a good job covering the important basic aspects of heart failure; classifications, cardiac physiology, E-C coupling, signal transduction, etc. Best of all the book is actually in a user friendly size, about 6" x 10", about 1 pound, and 380 pages, so it may be carried around with relative ease. Bottom line is that this will serve as a good guide to understand the basic principles of heart failure and provides an avenue integrate molecular biology with cardiac pathophysiology. It doesn't have all the details, but will prepare you to seek out the info that you need in an intelligent fashion from medical databases.

Atlas of Electrophysiology in Heart Failure

Atlas of Electrophysiology in Heart Failure
by Kalyanam Shivkumar (Editor), James N. Weiss (Editor), Gregg C. Fonarow (Editor), Jagat Narula (Editor)

Heart Failure has emerged as a major cardiovascular health problem. Clinical cardiology has become progressively subdivided into more highly specialized domains, yet the modern management of the heart failure patient crosses these boundaries. Given the cross-disciplinary nature of heart failure management, the Atlas of Electrophysiology in Heart Failure, which explores current concepts in the interface between heart failure and electrophysiology, comes at a timely juncture.
