EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description This text/DVD package is ideally suited for training courses for cardiologists and radiologists seeking certification to perform and interpret cardiovascular MRI (CMR) examinations. The authors present 37 lectures that systematically explain all key aspects of CMR. Coverage begins with an overview of principles, equipment, and imaging methods and proceeds to imaging protocols and clinical applications. An Advanced Training section includes details of imaging techniques, vascular imaging techniques, specialized cardiac imaging, and artifacts. The text and the PowerPoint lectures on the DVD complement each other in a unique way. The book mirrors the content of the lectures and provides full explanations of concepts that are well illustrated in the slides. DVD for Windows (PC only; Mac is available upon request). |
CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.5 based on 3 reviews)
| Very Good! by A. Fernandes (Salvador, BA Brazil) 4 Stars August 15, 2008 An excellent cardiac MRI review with well distributed topics, NOT long and boring chapters and a very clear language. Chapters are resumed in power pointers slides that bring more data about the issue. Very good option for physicians, technicians, and all those interested in cardiac MRI.
| | A Radiologist Review by T. Shill 4 Stars March 05, 2008 If you are a cardiologist wanting to learn about cardiac MRI, this is a very readable yet comprehensive book. The accompanying DVD has PowerPoint presentations corresponding with each chapter, which could be very helpful for a residency program. The examples given come with case histories and relevant clinical data.
This book is also ideal for technologists. The early chapters have detailed explanations of how to acquire the appropriate planes and examples of how they trace the myocardium for post-processing.
The only drawback might be for the radiologist. The purpose of the book is not to comprehensively define cardiac disease processes but to illustrate the usefulness and method of cardiac mri.
| | confusing organization by Tom (Brazil) 2 Stars January 27, 2008 Dr. Doyle's chapters are OK. Dr. Biederman's chapters are confusing and incomplete. They're are not clearly organized in sections, many concepts are introduced without explanation. Numerous typos throughout the book. The DVD consists of PPT presentations.
Again, dr. Biederman's PPTs are confusing and slides are presented in no particular order. Some slides consist of only images and movies with no annotations or arrows at all, leaving the reader absolutely lost. Some slides have up to 8 heavy mpeg movies making it difficult for Powerpoint to read directly from the DVD drive.
At chapter 9 the author describes a case in which the diagnosis of multiple aneurysms was only possible using surface rendered endoluminal fly-through views and not on convetional imaging methods (?!!).
In summary, the contents of the book are not well organized and there is no didactics at all making some subjects a challenge even for experienced readers. The only useful cardiac MRI book I've found so far is Bogaert's Clinical Cardiac MRI.

MRI has become the preferred noninvasive imaging modality for the heart and great vessels. The substantial technological progress achieved in recent years has provided the user with state-of-the-art MRI systems, but their optimal use can be limited by restricted awareness of the potential patient benefit and the necessity for teaching. This extensively illustrated volume, together with the accompanying CD-ROM, has been specifically compiled to meet these needs. Essential theoretical...

| Cardiovascular MR Imaging: Physical Principles to Practical Protocols by Vivian S Lee (Author)
This text equips radiologists with a firm working knowledge of the physical principles underlying cardiovascular MR image generation. Emphasis is on practical applications of MR physics in customizing and optimizing imaging sequences and protocols and minimizing artifacts. Section I covers basic principles of MR physics and includes a chapter on safety. Section II applies these principles to vascular imaging, including gadolinium-enhanced MR angiography. Section III examines various techniques...

| Cardiovascular MRI in Practice: A Teaching File Approach by John Grizzard (Author), Robert Judd (Author), Raymond Kim (Author)
This book and DVD package represents a new and fundamentally different way of learning cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). The entire project is encoded on a single (dual-layer) DVD as a series of web pages that can be displayed offline in any web browser (eg. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari). Unlike previous CMR textbooks containing a few pre-selected views for each case, this book and DVD contains the entire scan for each of the 150 clinical cases (totalling more than 88,000 CMR images)....
