| Over rated by Bookish Susie (Anniston, AL) 3 Stars August 28, 2009 A fair question book. No less. No more. It is good in picking on some confusing concepts and punching on tricky points. Does not mimic either USMLE or Board. The questions tend to be too specific on trivial issues. Has figures copied from the textbook, some are of poor quality. A little tiring to read the plain small print, yet has questions inspiring enough. Well, I read through it. So it must be good enough. After all, adequate but not exciting.
| | Extensive, but good by Banu 4 Stars May 01, 2009 i like to read this book, not only for exam purposes but for over all knowledge too.
It has qyesn and answers, although the questions are not board pattern fully, they are easy understand and easy read types.
| | Great Book by Smart shopper AL (AL) 5 Stars April 14, 2009 Instead of reading the whole book of synopsis of psychiatry by Kaplan&Sadock, I read this one and did all the questions and studied all answers. I got very high scores in PRITE every year and pass written board with scores over 90%. The questions are more difficult than PRITE and written board.
Highly recommended.
| | NOT Recommended for MOC exam by D. Steenblock (Marshalltown, Iowa) 2 Stars March 14, 2009 The ABPN Maintenance of Certification (MOC) exam covered adult clinical psychiatry. There was very little child psychiatry on the exam but a substantial proportion of this book is devoted to child psych. Also the exam covered virtually nothing on theoretical concepts (development, etc.) and had very little relating to the basic skills that are covered in first few chapters of this book. I read this book end-to-end and it was not the best use of my time. If you are preparing for MOC, would suggest focusing on DSM criteria, meds, substance abuse, legal issues, defense mechanisms, reproductive issues, HIV, delirium, and associated medical conditions. If you are practicing adult psychiatry full time and are up to date, you won't need to do too much preparation for this exam. The other problem with this book is it has SEVERAL mistakes and contradictions. Someone needs to go back over this carefully and correct them. It might be OK for the initial certification exam (except has very little neurology), but it is a waste of time for the MOC.
| | Good book by Ahmad Bilal 5 Stars June 27, 2008 You can pass the boards by doing this book and 2 to 3 years of PRITE exam.
