EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Here is everything young readers want to know about dinosaurs and their world—in one magnificently illustrated, up-to-date family reference. Through dramatic graphics and age-appropriate text, this authoritative volume charts the discovery of all the main types of dinosaurs and reveals the latest details on how these creatures most likely looked, behaved, defended themselves, found food, cared for their young, and interacted. Stunning murals, based on scientific evidence, depict various dinosaurs in their habitats—beautifully complementing the color photographs, paintings, charts, and maps. Some 53 major types of dinosaurs are described, representing a wide range of physical structures, sizes, and lifestyles. The book presents recent discoveries and current scientific thought—including the dinosaur-bird connection, profiles of feathered dinosaurs, and theories on dinosaur extinction. Readers also see how today’s paleontologists obtain evidence, piece together clues, and continue to reconstruct life in prehistoric times. |

| An interesting vividily real fact filled information text reference book by Peppercorn (sydney australia) 4 Stars July 29, 2009 National Geographic have always been and always will be at the forefront of producing and creating stunning imaginary picture fact filled detailed indepth information reference books and they've done it again! And this time it's based around dazzling variety of amazing dinosaurs who mysteriously became exctinct 160 million years ago and have thrived today thank's to skillful creative fossil reconstruction from paleontologist's who study dug up bones buried underground for scientific knowledge of expanding and opening up the intellectual brain in people. What this book doesn't have in it is a full uncluttered information profile on pterodactyls in it but it nonetheless has over 300 glorious colour photographic pictures which will stand the test of time for generations to come who haven't explored this bold large vividly real imaginative prehistoric world. All in all this this is another interesting spectactular vision into discoverying our prehistoric past for generations of palaeontologist's to come in the past and present of our lifetime.
| | Can't Believe I agree with Picture Comments by Libby Deel (Texas) 3 Stars January 14, 2009 I read the best review and worst. I'm shocked I agree with the worst review comments on picture layouts. I thought how bad could it be. I purchased to read to my 4 year old, we love it but I am so annoyed by the picture layouts I get distracted. You wouldn't think it makes a difference but it does. There are heads in the seams, center of picture key to the photo Cut off. It really is too bad. I love everything else and would still recommend it. If you read this and the other critiques you'll be prepared and not think you got a mis print.
| | National Geographic Dinosaurs by Soraya C. Lebsack (Houston,Tx.) 2 Stars December 21, 2008 The information in the book is fabulous, but I was very disappointed in the condition of the book. The back cover was very wore and a bit dirty. The back cover was also torn away from the main body of the book. I will have to glue/tape the back cover before giving this to my son at Christmas. The description of the condition of the book was misleading, so I will never order from this particular vendor in North Carolina again. Last year I ordered a book at Christmas for my son and I was very pleasantly surprised ( different vendor ! ). This year given how the book looks, I will have to say that the gift was from "us " his parents instead of Santa Claus.
| | buy it for art.only for art. by manoj pathiravasam (galle, sri lanka) 4 Stars December 03, 2008 this book is my most anticipated dinosaur book to date.specially for the stunning artwork of raul martin.but as soon as i got my hands on this book few days ago i was dissapointed.mainly because the placement of the illustrations.most important part of the many artworks are not easy to see because of the binding of the book.while some of the artwork of martin is amazing some are seems to be very ordinary, much better work can be found via his online gallery.although he is my favorite paleo artist there aren't any other books by him.so overall this is a good buy for any dinosaur fan.
| | EXCELLENT CHOICE! by Debra Sue Nagy (Traverse City, Michigan) 5 Stars August 28, 2008 I bought this book for my 5 year old son. He is a die hard dinosaur fan. He loves it. The pictures in it are magnificent! The information is in laymens terms. You don't have to be a scientist to understand the content. There are tons of dinosaur pictures. Definately one of my sons favorite dino books!
