EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description A revolutionary explanation of the link between psychic phenomena and how human consciousness works. Dr. Diane Powell, a prominent Johns Hopkinsātrained neuropsychiatrist, examines the evidence for many types of psychic phenomena, from telepathy and precognition to psychokinesis, and finds several well-designed and rigorously supervised studies that prove the existence of some psychic phenomena. The fact that psychic abilities are stronger among prodigies, autistic savants, and some people who are bipolar or have suffered certain brain injuries has led to brain-imaging and other research that can explain which parts of the brain are dominant in psychics and mystics. Dr. Powell proposes a new paradigm for consciousness that would explain psychic phenomena, such as how the mind of a mystic or psychic could have an organizational effect on the physical world. Grounded in decades of reliable scientific research, The ESP Enigma establishes a common ground among psychic phenomena believers and skeptics. |

| Much more than ESP. Comprehensive and well-written by D. Macgregor (Portland, OR) 5 Stars August 31, 2009 There is a solid body of evidence for a number of psychic phenomena, certainly enough for those with open minds, and Dr. Powell has presented a significant overview of much of this material. Although much of the information in the book has been drifting around for years, it is good to see a serious neuroscientist add her thought-provoking observations. An excellent read.
| | Astonishing by cadams (Utah) 5 Stars August 22, 2009 I do not have an exhaustive knowledge of literature on ESP, but having purveyed books over the years on the subject, I was amazed at the author's overview and control of the subject. This is clearly a research area that is not easily compliant to the traditional double blind, placebo controlled, randomized experiment. How could it if the observer can distort the observation so much in different ways? But I was satisfied that much of the evidence must at present come from anecdotes. She weaves these in with other more controlled evidences, including those testing not humans but materials, that are clearly outside the realm of a random probability.
She brings to the table credentials that allow her to bring all evidences to a whole: through consciousness. She is on to something. Yes, this is just an overview book: I've seen many before; but this one is different. The price of purchase is well worth it in my opinion: it lends itself to repeated reference later on. It is also well written.
I personally dislike buying books very often. Instead I prefer to check them out from a university library; and I review them and take notes of pertinent parts, and forget the rest. With this book, as with few others, I stopped marking my preferred pages to review more carefully later: there is too much that is valuable. When I will take notes of it later, I will simply review the whole damn thing again.
| | Not Just About ESP by Linda A. Lavid (Buffalo, NY United States) 5 Stars July 23, 2009 I enjoyed this book. It covered a lot of ground (psychic phenomena, experiments of same, brain chemistry, quantum physics) in an understandable way. More importantly, however, it made me think of myself and those psychic/creative abilities that lie within.
| | ESP Finally Explained using 21st Century Science! by leo kim (California USA) 5 Stars July 16, 2009 Dr. Powell weaves numerous scientific disciplines in lay terms which chronicles undeniable evidence that the ESP experience is supported by modern science. | | Repeat and a Concern by R. Gowan (North Carolina) 2 Stars June 26, 2009 While the author, a doctor, provides a book that makes reading on the subject quite easy, it occurs to me that the material seems markedly repetitive to others well before this.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt - I wouldn't call it plagerism - but so close is the comparison to "The Field" by Lynne McTaggart and various passages from "The User Illusion" by Tor Norretranders, that I am concerned that this book is, at the least, a repackaging.
Still, I enjoy reading about the workings of the mind and Dr. Powell makes the subject quite accessible.

| Quantum Enigma: Physics Encounters Consciousness by Bruce Rosenblum (Author), Fred Kuttner (Author)
In trying to understand the atom, physicists built quantum mechanics and found, to their embarrassment, that their theory intimately connects consciousness with the physical world. Quantum Enigma explores what that implies and why some founders of the theory became the foremost objectors to it. Authors Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner explain all of this in non-technical terms with help from some fanciful stories and anecdotes about the theory's developers. They present the quantum mystery...

| Entangled Minds: Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality by Dean Radin (Author)
IS EVERYTHING CONNECTED? Can we sense what's happening to loved ones thousands of miles away? Why are we sometimes certain of a caller's identity the instant the phone rings? Do intuitive hunches contain information about future events? Is it possible to perceive without the use of the ordinary senses? Many people believe that such "psychic phenomena" are rare talents or divine gifts. Others don't believe they exist at all. But the latest scientific research shows that...

The doctor-and bestselling author-who first demonstrated the healing effects of prayer now offers an unprecedented look at the science of premonitions.
When Larry Dossey was in his first year of medical practice, he experienced a week of premonitions about patients, all of which came true. He had never had them before; they seemed to have come out of left field. After the sensations stopped, writes Dossey in The Power of Premonitions, "It was as if the universe, having delivered a...
