Not Impressed by Annie (Oregon) 1 Stars

I bought this my for 12 yr. old son. I was not impressed. It goes into quite detailed information on same sex attraction, masturbation, and pre-marital sex, and that's just the beginning. These are all things that I think kids need to know and learn about, however this is not the format I want my son to learn about these things.

Great way for pre-teens boys to learn by R. Reed (Sutherland, va United States) 4 Stars

This book made my son look at some issues that boys face these days. He was able to ask questions and start a dialogue we needed to do for along time now. This book came up with some issues that I never even thought of kids thinking about.

What a boy needs to know by S. Nowak 4 Stars

I've been separated for over 3 years, now going through a divorce, my oldest son is hitting puberty and he lives about 500 miles from me. I looked at three or four books in a bookstore before deciding on this one. I bought a copy for me in person and one for him from amazon.com so I could see exactly what he was referring to when we talked. He read the whole book the first night he received it it. We talked about it the next night and he got most of the facts right. There are a few things he hasn't experienced yet but he's prepared for them. In addition to talks with me I can refer him back to specific parts of the book as he matures. Content is solid, doesn't advocate any view points except to be aware and be cautious. It covers pretty much everything that an adolescent entering and going through puberty should be aware of. It has relevant detail without being graphic. I'd recommend it not just for the "long-distance father" but also for pretty much any parent. It provides good information, can be a focal point for talking about the topic, and is a good lead in for further discussion.

not for the early tween by Sandi (Cape Cod, MA) 2 Stars

This book has some great info...but ventures into places that I was not ready to go with my 5th grader....I was looking for a puberty "starter" book...but this delves deeper than I was ready to go...so it is tucked away for a few years....like high school.

The book gives great information to boys who have alot of questions, myself am a single mom to a ten year old boy who had questions that I was not 100% sure of and this book helped me out. The only bad thing about this book is I Was not totally pleased with some of the language and how certain things were worded. Its a book I would rather myself read to him then him read by himself...
