Great Intro to College-Level Chemistry by F. cook (Florida) 5 Stars
October 29, 2008
This is a great supplementary book for an introductory-level college chemistry course. It explains major concepts and theories in full detail, but refrains from the intense mathematical derivations of some functions that aren't required for a general chemistry course. Gray uses a common-sense approach in tackling complex functions, visually showing their physical counterparts (such as orbitals in the case of the Schrodinger Equation) rather than relying solely on equations.

A good intro MO theory book for some. 4 Stars

This was one of the books used in my introductory freshman chemistry class at my university. It has highly informative, yet concise explanations covering the basics of molecular orbital theory. While I preferred this book to our other text for its conciseness, those without a good background in chemistry may have a difficult time with the book for the same reason. My only complaint about the book is that Gray uses CGS units instead of SI.

I did get some information from this book, but basicly it wasway over my head.

The Mechanical Universe: Mechanics and Heat, Advanced Edition
by Steven C. Frautschi (Author), Richard P. Olenick (Author), Tom M. Apostol (Author), David L. Goodstein (Author)

This innovative physics textbook intended for science and engineering majors develops classical mechanics from a historical perspective. The presentation of the standard course material includes a discussion of the thought processes of the discoverers and a description of the methods by which they arrived at their theories. However the presentation proceeds logically rather than strictly chronologically, so new concepts are introduced at the natural moment. The book assumes a familiarity with...

Principles of Modern Chemistry
by David W. Oxtoby (Author), H. Pat Gillis (Author), Alan Campion (Author)

PRINCIPLES OF MODERN CHEMISTRY has long been considered the standard book for the course, and this modern text has been significantly revised at the sentence level to make it more student-centered and friendly. Authors David W. Oxtoby and H. P. Gillis are now joined by respected researcher and professor, Alan Campion of the University of Texas-Austin, who brings his expertise on surface physics and chemistry and condensed matter spectroscopy to the sixth edition. Calculus, Vol. 1: One-Variable Calculus with an Introduction to Linear Algebra (Second Edition) (Volume 1)
by Tom M. Apostol (Author)

This book gives architects and designers a working knowledge of architectural acoustics. The control of sound is important not only in obvious places like concert halls, but also in offices where privacy is essential. In Architectural Acoustics, six experienced consultants present basic acoustical principles; specific materials, methods, and techniques for controlling sound in and around buildings; and some recent innovations in acoustical research.

Practical Programming: An Introduction to Computer Science Using Python (Pragmatic Programmers)
by Jennifer Campbell (Author), Paul Gries (Author), Jason Montojo (Author), Greg Wilson (Author)

Computers are used in every part of science from ecology to particle physics. This introduction to computer science continually reinforces those ties by using real-world science problems as examples. Anyone who has taken a high school science class will be able to follow along as the book introduces the basics of programming, then goes on to show readers how to work with databases, download data from the web automatically, build graphical interfaces, and most importantly, how to think like a...
