My Favorite Read-Aloud Picture Book! by Rebecca Scano

I was a school librarian for 7 years and this is the best read-aloud book on any library shelf. This book has wonderful characters that come alive and teach us all that getting to know someone, who we think is our enemy, can turn that enemy into a friend. Great book! Great message!

"Enemy Pie" is one of the best children's books I have ever seen. Munson's book offers a valuable message for kids of any age, but is never preachy. By the end even very young readers can grasp the idea that "enemies" are often friends we just don't know yet. If you are reading this book with a child under the age of 6 or so, there will probably be quite a bit of suspense. The auther's dad knows a secret about enemies, but what is he putting into the Enemy Pie? It smells just like a regular pie....delicious. Dad tells his son that the only way the enemy pie will work is if he spends the day with his enemy first; "Even worse, you have to be nice to him." But by the end of the day, things have changed....was Jeremy really a enemy after all? And what is going to happen to Jeremy when dad serves up that Enemy Pie?!? Don't miss this fun and funny lesson about friendship.

As an elementary principal, I stress character education. I am always searching for children's books with strong messages that will stick with my students long after I read to them. ENEMY PIE is that kind of book. A young boy named Jermemy Ross is having a great summer playing baseball and enjoying his treehouse until he sees his number one enemy jumping on a trampoline. His dad convinces him the best way to get back at his enemies is to serve them enemey pie. Jermemy imagines all the nasty ingredients like earthworms that likely are in enemy pie and by the end of the story he discovers what really makes enemy pie so powerful. Needless to say, Jeremy takes care of his enemy and learns an important life lesson in the process. It's certainly a lesson you will want to pass on to your children and no doube one worth reviewing in your own life.

I absolutely loved this book!!! It has a great message about friendship and changing around a negative situation into a positive one. Both my 4 year old and 6 year old were hanging on every word. The best part for us is that our son's name is JEREMY ROSS and we have a trampoline in our backyard!!! So you can imagine how shocked I was when I starting reading this book to my kids that I randomly grabbed off the shelf at the library:) My son was delighted that his name was in such a cool book! It almost seemed like we had the book made with our info in it. We are going to purchase this to have as a keepsake.
