The Thiinker's Toolkit by Niki Ekman 5 Stars

I use this book when I teach intelligence analysis. It covers a good variety of techniques that can be used for analysis purposes. It has a good balance between essay type text and examples. It's humorous.

Great Starter by J. Morrison (Alexandria, VA) 4 Stars

I was first exposed to The Thinkers Toolkit during a basis critical thinking course I took a few years ago. I found it to be a good start on understanding the issues of critical thinking and it provided some excellent tools for the reader to understand. While it is not the end all for the exploration of critical thinking it provides an excellent start for the novice and a good review for someone who is rusty in the process. I currently use the book as a basic read for new analysts I'm working with. I've read the previous complaints about the difficulties with some of the examples in the book but have to admit I've found the same issue in most of the books I've read on the subject. This is a solid book that can be of true assistance to the novice in particular.

Great Tools for Decision Making by Robert E. Levasseur (St. Augustine, Florida, USA) 5 Stars
May 06, 2009
I use this book in courses I teach on Problem Solving and Decision Making. The set of problem solving techniques presented by the author, including problem restatement, decision matrix analysis, probability trees, and much more, are easy to understand and apply. Hence, students find them very helpful. Before learning these methods, students' analyses of problems are elementary and unfocused. After they have learned the problem solving method and mastered these tools, their analyses are much more structured, logical, and sophisticated. This book will not make you an expert, but it will give you the basics you need to solve problems and make better decisions individually and collectively. I highly recommend it. Robert E. Levasseur, Ph.D., author of "Practical Statistics"

BORING! by PINS (Maryland, USA) 2 Stars
December 23, 2008
This was one of the most boring books I have read in a long time. Lot's of math - word problems & equations. I suppose if you are into this sort of thing you may find this book somewhat interesting but it is not a book one would read for enjoyment. I had to read it as part of a college course and it was terrible! If you must use it I suggest checking it out from a library - it's not worth the price (no matter what the asking).
