EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description Case Studies in Immunology, Fifth Edition, cites major topics of immunology as the background to a selection of real clinical cases that serve to reinforce and extend the basic science. This new edition vividly illustrates the importance of an understanding of immunology in diagnosis and therapy. As well as being a valuable review aid, Case Studies in Immunology introduces in a clinical setting the major common disorders of immunity, including hypersensitivity types I-IV and autoimmune disorders such as lupus and multiple sclerosis. It also describes and explains the consequences of some of the most important immune deficiencies. Each case history is preceded by basic scientific facts essential to understanding the immunology behind the disease or disorder. An end-of-case summary, questions, and discussion points finish each case. Case Studies in Immunology can be used as a stand-alone book, or as a clinical companion alongside Immunobiology, Sixth Edition (ISBN 0-8153-4101-6) and The Immune System, Second Edition (ISBN 0-8153-4093-1). Key Features: Contains FIVE new cases bringing the total number of cases included to 47: Hereditary Periodic Fever Syndromes; Interleukin Receptor-associated Kinase Deficiency; Common Variable Immunodeficiency; Immune Dysregulation, Polyendocrinopathy, Enteropathy, X-linked Disease; Celiac Disease. Each case describes real events and symptoms from case histories, ensuring that the reader is presented with, assesses, and evaluates a realistic clinical situation. Full-color illustrations, photographs, and micrographs throughout complement the text. Contains helpful case summary notes in margin. Cases end with a discussion and question section; this useful pedagogic tool is designed to highlight lessons learned from individual cases. Can be used as a clinical companion to Immunobiology, Sixth Edition, and The Immune System, Second Edition. |

| Great Companion text for any immunology course by Jonathan H. Koenig (New York, NY) 5 Stars November 05, 2009 Great Companion text for any immunology course. Shows clinically relevant cases and exemplifies how and why certain themes apply to medicine.
| | Case Studies in Immunology by M. Broadwater (Baltimore, Md) 5 Stars September 29, 2008 This book is a great companion to Janeway's Immunobiology! It allows you to read real life cases that relate to the material you are learning about in Immunology. Great Buy:)
| | Disappointed by James W. Myers (Johnson City, TN United States) 2 Stars September 28, 2008 Not what I expected. It was not written the way other "case" oriented texts are in my opinion.
| | Are you a medical student? Buy this book. by K. Berenson 5 Stars March 23, 2008 Considering the serious dearth of well-written text companions and the prevalence of badly assorted notes in MS these days--this book is genius. If you want a good overview of disease causes and states, along with questions engineered to make you think (not deliberately trick you), then this is a solid immunology companion. Ignore that other reviewer.
| | excellent companion to immunobiology by R. Roy 5 Stars September 29, 2004 A great book for anyone interested in clinical immunology. When used in combination with Immunobiology, the concepts are clearly explained. The added bonus of the lab science behind the clinical work is wonderful. I would not recommend this book alone unless the reader has an extensive background in immunology and is interested strictly in clinical presentations of immunological defects in humans.
