Excellent Book for Thermographers 5 Stars
November 10, 2000
From the publisher: Common Sense Approach to Thermal Imaging is now available.Thermal imaging systems are used by the military to detect, recognize, and identify enemy personnel, equipment, and buildings. Police patrol border crossings and use thermal imaging systems for search and rescue. The systems are particularly useful for evaluating the condition of power lines, transformers, circuit breakers, and motors. Simply put, they can be used to evaluate the "health" of any electrical or mechanical component. This profusely illustrated book provides the underlying physics of why and how objects emit radiation. Since this radiation is related to temperature, it is relatively to determine an object's temperature. By using both simple and complex math, this book is intended for all that work with thermal imaging systems. This includes the researcher, system designer, test engineer, salesman, and end user. Since civilian and military applications are discussed, this book is useful to both communities.Co published by SPIE Press and JCD Publishing

Practical Applications of Infrared Thermal Sensing and Imaging Equipment, Third Edition (SPIE Tutorial Text Vol. TT75) (Tutorial Texts in Optical Engineering)
by Herbert Kaplan (Author)

The second edition of this text was published in 1999, and since that time many improvements have taken place in instrumentation performance and versatility. This third edition reviews these many changes and how they impact the way thermographers operate, deploy, calibrate, and test the new instruments. In addition, the instruments that have been made essentially obsolete are reviewed as part of the historical evolution of the technology.

Uncooled Thermal Imaging Arrays, Systems, and Applications (SPIE Tutorial Texts in Optical Engineering Vol. TT51)
by Paul W. Kruse (Author)

The development of uncooled infrared focal plane arrays began with the military's need to see the battlefield at night without any form of illumination. While the early arrays involved use of cryogenic systems, a new class of detection mechanisms that didn't require crygenic operation was developed in the United States in the 1980s. The author has been involved in development of this technology since then. This book is an introduction for both professionals and students. It covers uncooled...

Alien Vision: Exploring the Electromagnetic Spectrum with Imaging Technology (SPIE Press Monograph Vol. PM104)
by Austin Richards (Author)

Austin Richards takes readers on a visual tour of the electromagnetic spectrum beyond the range of human sight, using imaging technology as the means to 'see' invisible light. Dozens of colorful images and clear, concise descriptions make this an intriguing, accessible technical book. Richards explains the light spectrum, including visible light, and describes the advanced imaging technologies that enable humans to synthesize our own version of 'alien' vision at different wavelengths,...

Thermal Infrared Characterization of Ground Targets and Backgrounds, Second Edition (SPIE Tutorial Texts in Optical Engineering, Vol. TT70)
by Pieter A. Jacobs (Author)

This new edition updates the technologies that deal with the characterization of the thermal infrared radiation contrast between ground targets and backgrounds. Samples have been updated to comply with the current status of technology in sensor systems and countermeasures. New topics on mine detection and polarization have been included, and the section covering multispectral camouflage of personnel has been extended. The basic principles and meteorological parameters are presented, followed by...
