Product Description
Artists love this book, the definitive guide to capturing facial expressions. In a carefully organized, easy-to-use format, author Gary Faigin shows readers the expressions created by individual facial muscles, then draws them together in a section devoted to the six basic human emotions: sadness, anger, joy, fear, disgust, and surprise. Each emotion is shown in steadily increasing intensity, and Faigin’s detailed renderings are supplemented by clear explanatory text, additional sketches, and finished work. An appendix includes yawning, wincing, and other physical reactions. Want to create portraits that capture the real person? Want to draw convincing illustrations? Want to show the range of human emotion in your artwork? Get The Artist’s Complete Guide to Facial Expression!

Want to learn about faces? by Lloyd L. Lehn (Northern VA) 5 Stars
June 26, 2009
My art instructor brought this book to our portrait drawing class and recommended that we take a look. I did and it provided a significant enlightenment. I was worried about the original price but found I could purchase a used one for a reasonable price - including shipping. My instructor suggested that a good way to learn to draw heads is to draw two or three of these a week. Try that challenge.

Full of a variety of examples and clear explanations. Great for a hungry imagination. Very realistic treatment. This might be the best book I've seen on facial expressions. It's so thorough.

That is what I am looking for recently. I am a clay modeller and also the first time to study this title. I think this is very helpful for my sculpting works. This book is well printed and easy to understand how the face change. This book is highly recommended!

For nearly two decades The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression served as a reference for fine artists, animators, cartoonists and more interested in depicting human expressions. Here detailed drawings of a range of human expressions are accompanied by illustrations from a range of other media, from newspaper photos and cartoons to film posters and paintings by other artists, making this a key reference for any art library catering to those who would capture facial expression more accurately, from a range of sources.
