High Octane by Janene Hills (Wynyard,Tas, Australia) 5 Stars

A fine colledction from all the 'pop' surrealist greats.I especially liked the quantity of text that occompanies the images and the images themselves are of a high quality. My only criticism is the placement of some pictures across a double page. This is unfortunate because it distorts the impact of the images, but 'Hey'it's a great collection of work never the less. Hi- Fructose sits on my Art book shelf along side the 'Best of Juxtupoz'. They are great and a must for use in any art class to stimulate student creativity!

A new breed of contemporary artists is celebrating newfound international recognition
for their style and approach to creating art that is sprouting from and largely
influenced by visual subcultures. These young artists, who are associated with the
widespread movements of Lowbrow Art and Neo-Surrealism, share similarities with
the popular art movements of the 1960s and 70s as well as urban art.
The term Lowbrow may sound self-deprecating; rather it represents a...

Mark Ryden: The Tree Show
by Mark Ryden (Author)

Absorbing Roman poet Ovid's tales of transformation in Metamorphoses and adding his own dash of art-historical figuration and contemporary pop culture, Mark Ryden broaches new terrain with The Tree Show. Arcadian Gothic" might hint at the nature of this new work, and fans of Ryden will find familiar preoccupations in these new paintings, drawings and sculptures--made since his first solo show in 1998--transposed to new pastures. Never reluctant to freight his work with layers of reference that...

In the Land of Retinal Delights - The Juxtapoz Factor (Juxtapoz School)
by Meg Linton (Author), Bolton Colburn (Editor), Robert Williams (Editor)

Since 1994, Juxtapoz Magazine, published in San Francisco, has provided a forum for so called Lo-Brow art-work inspired by comics, hot rods, and popular culture --and has become, in the years since, the most widely read art magazine in the United States. Juxtapoz provides a voice and validation for a brand of artist, like founder Robert Williams, Mark Ryden, Coop, Camille Rose Garcia, Glen Barr, the Clayton Brothers, Isabel Samaras, Joe Coleman, and many, many others, who have not historically...
