Product Description
Atkins, the Zone, the South Beach Diet. Anyone with a serious weight problem has probably tried — and failed — to use one of these diets to lose weight. And it’s not their fault. According to weight loss specialist Dr. Scott Rigden, there is no miracle diet that works for everyone because everyone possesses a unique body type and corresponding metabolism. People can be divided into five different metabolic types that have a corresponding plan of specific dietary and lifestyle habits that make weight loss work. In this book, Rigden helps readers determine their metabolic type and then devotes a chapter to each one with dietary, exercise, supplement, and medicine advice complete with glossaries and case studies. He also includes chapters on emotional eating and how to mentally prepare for weight loss. Readers find out why conventional diets don’t work and, using the guidelines in this book, jump-start their metabolism and experience safe, permanent weight loss.

It's not only about over-eating by Reader Views (Austin, Texas) 5 Stars

Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (8/09) Dieting - try, fail, try, fail, try, fail. That's the story of most people that attempt to diet without understanding their body mechanisms. It is certainly a story of my life until I discovered I had a metabolic disorder. Many diets don't address metabolism or associated disorders. Dr. Scott Rigden explains, in detail, the five weight-loss-defeating metabolic disorders as: carbohydrate sensitivity; metabolic syndrome; impaired lived detoxification; food hypersensitivities, and hormonal imbalances. Through concise explanation, case studies, clinical conditions, and recommendations, Dr. Rigden gives the reader an inside look as to what may be happening with the body. Unfortunately many allopathic and bariatric doctors don't address the metabolic issues and often put their patients on diets, pills, or injections that may work for the short-term, but in the end the patient regains all that was lost. Following Dr. Rigden's protocol will make the difference between trying and failing, and trying and succeeding. I know as I'm a prime example. After much testing by a medical professional that understood that there is much more than just cutting back on food intake, I was diagnosed with food hypersensitivities and hormonal imbalances. Following a protocol similar to what Dr. Rigden suggests, I was able to turn my condition around. I highly recommend that anyone who has experienced the yo-yo effect of weight gain/loss consider Dr. Rigden's "The Ultimate Metabolism Diet" to have a better understanding of what may be happening to the body. I'm a true believer there is more to maintaining a healthy body than being on a diet, it's all recognizing and understanding our body's needs and fulfilling those needs.

This book is chock full of useful info for increasing health and wellness, and subsequently weight loss. We now recommend this book to our clients frequently. There is no one-size-fits all type of diet and this book unravels the mystery behind it. Scott has years of research to back up the findings in his book. Based in functional medicine, this book details different metabolic types such as carbohydrate sensitivity, hormonal imbalances, food sensitivities, metabolic syndrome, and impaired liver detoxification. It is a fascinating read full of real life stories and simple, nutritious recipes!

Worked for me by Ken Stewart 5 Stars

I lost 50 pounds in 16 weeks following the guidelines found in this book and recipes in the The Good Carb Cookbook. I'v never dieted before but found this book not only dealt with the weight issues I was 245 pounds but also other health issues such as hypertension among other things I was dealing with. I'm now 195 pounds and have reduced the amount of medication I was taking for hypertension by half as well as having much more energy.

Great Book, Fantastic Doctor by Jennifer Oetjen (Gilbert, Arizona) 5 Stars

Great information. I am also a patient of Dr. Rigden and admire him greatly. He is unlike any doctor I have been to. He takes the time to get to know you and finds the reasons you are not feeling well. He doesn't stop until he has found the correct treatment plan. He is the only doctor I feel truly cares for my long term well being. Most doctors prescribe a medication and send you on your way. Dr. Rigden takes a journey with you to get you feeling the way you want to. I love his book and him.
