The Different Editions of This Book... by Theseus (US of A) 5 Stars

...were a little confusing to me. Here's what I have figured out, from my copy of the 1993 edition, the edition with the photo cover. (ISBN 0929451007, Library of Congress 93-072932.) The 1st edition of this, "the most popular book on the geology of Utah" appeared in 1973. "...used by thousands of students, teachers, laymen, and professional geologists as the handiest and most comprehensive introduction Utah's geology...." A "completely revised" edition appeared in 1988. This was amended in 1993 "with minor revisions." This book is also known as Brigham Young University Geology Studies Special Publication #7.

Very good book on geology in Utah by Obi (SLC, UT) 5 Stars

Hintze really helps bring to life the geologic history of Utah. Even a novice such as myself could gain an understanding of what Utah looked like in the past and how it came to look like it does now. From the deeply contorted basin and range mountains to the almost flat and undisturbed Colorado Plateau, Utah is rich in interesting geologic formations. With the help of an arid climate, the geologic history of Utah is within you grasp as you drive down the road and through the mountains. A real thanks is due the author as well as his compadre William Stokes for helping to bring to life the interesting geology of the State of Utah.

Geologic History of Utah--A review by James Foulks (Tucson AZ) 5 Stars
March 29, 2000
From the sage brush landscapes of the Great Basin Desert in the west, the beautiful high alpine Wasatch in the north and the high mesa's and arches of the Colorado Plateau in the south-east; "Geologic History of Utah", by L.F. Hintze, is a must read for the geologist and the interested visitor to Utah alike. Filled to the brim with insightful illustrations, maps, air and ground photo's, cross sections and stratigraphic columns; the book is an absolute requirement for anyone who may be doing geologic work in the state or who is interested in the diverse geologic events that have affected the Utah region over the past 3 billion years. The book's core is a comprehensive review of the geologic history of Utah, which concludes with a plate-tectonic perspective broken down into 8 time-phases. "Geologic History of Utah" also includes over 100 stratigraphic columns that span the entire state, giving any newcomer to Utah's spectacular geology an instant overview of the diverse time and spatial patterns recorded in the rocks that make Utah so famous.

Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau

Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau
by Ron Blakey (Author), Wayne Ranney (Author)

Imagine seeing the varied landscapes of the earth as they used to look throughout hundreds of millions of years of earth history. Tropical seas lap on the shores of an Arizona beach. Immense sand dunes shift and swirl in Sahara-like deserts in Utah and New Mexico. Ancient rivers spill from a mountain range in Colorado that was a precursor to the modern Rockies. Such flights of geologic fancy are now tangible through the thought-provoking and beautiful paleogeographic maps, reminiscent of the...
