| How To Survive The Loss of A Love by Diane K. Westbrook (Austin. Texas) 2 Stars October 19, 2009 I truly enjoyed the little poems inside but the book made me cry and cry all that day. I'm not sure it is very helpful or if something that makes you cry is good for you so you can just let it all out and feel better afterwards. I haven't read all of it yet, but I probably will. Good luck to anyone else in this situation and God Bless.
| | How to survive the loss of a love by Jeffrey L. Tucker (South Range, WI USA) 5 Stars September 30, 2009 I'm a guy - so normally we just 'tough it out' when we lose someone we've been involved with. But as I've gotten older I found that more difficult and after a particularly painful breakup with my then-fiance', I sought help in the form of a self help book and stumbled upon "How to survive the loss of a love" by Peter McWilliams and Harold H. Bloomfield. I don't think I can do the book justice in how it helps - on one page is narrative about what you are experiencing at this particular point and on the other page is a poem that somehow reached inside me and said exactly what I was thinking and feeling. It does this from the excruciating heart-felt pain you go through from the beginning to the shock, fear, anger, remorse and then gives you hope. Day by day, I carried this book with me and over the years I have given copies (never my own copy!) to friends and family when they have experienced losses. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered a loss, it will help get you through.

| | great help! by rattle headed copper moccasin (lawrence, ks usa) 5 Stars September 21, 2009 could even be titled "how to survive the loss," or "how to survive a loss." wonderfully helpful. some people may have cried while reading this book, i did not cry but i did laugh some and felt like i could breathe again. even if you hate poetry, you will probably still like this book.
| | a comfort and solace by Opal Artist 3 Stars September 17, 2009 I read this book years ago but purchased it for a friend going through a period of loss. I recommend it as one tool to help people grieve; while not every page rang with truth for myself, I do think people can find some solace in it. It's a great book to skim through and find pages that provide direction or support in particular moments of grief, I went back through the book one year after I received it as a gift and found new perspectives and ideas on managing my sadness.
| | Just What You Need by N. Leavitt (Florida) 5 Stars September 12, 2009 This book deals with the loss of a love either through a break-up or death. It focuses mostly on break-ups but I have had to deal with the loss of a love because of death and this book has helped me tremendously.
The book is a very quick read, maybe 2-3 hours. It is simply a series of "rules" to follow in order to deal with the loss of a love. On the left side of the page is the rule and an explaination and on the right side is a wonderful poem related to the rule.
Merely reading this book moved me along the grief process by at least 50%. It was a huge jump and got me well on the road to recovery. The loss of a love is a horrible, unique experience. Unfortunately, even well meaning friends and family often can't help and actually make the pain worse because they simply don't know what to do or say. This book will guide you out of your pain. It is a must read.
