EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description A comprehensive diet resource for women with Endometriosis - all researched and compiled to provide a safe and healing diet to help alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis. The book includes over 250 recipes plus recommendations of what to leave out of your diet and why; tips about estrogen and your diet, and how to keep it in balance; details of substitute ingredients for dairy products and baking; snippets of nutritional advice woven among the recipes; a range of recipes from simple and easy to cook through to more exotic ideas, including some recipes for parties and catering. This is the second edition of the book, and to date there has been lots of very positive feedback from women who have followed the recipe suggestions in this book. Some women have even managed to be totally symptom free and have been able to return to normal activities in life, as well as the added benefit of loosing weight. The purpose of the endometriosis diet is to relieve or even prevent some of the disabling symptoms that occur with menstruation, as well as the general pain of endometriosis. The diet also aims to decrease estrogen levels, stabilize hormones, increase energy levels, reduce inflammation and alleviate painful cramps. A very good resource to help women follow the diet for endometriosis. |

| A real life saver by Sonja (Canada) 5 Stars November 19, 2009 I bought this book despite the couple of negative comments and I am very glad that I did. The book has many delicious recipes and is clear to explain the reasons why you need to leave out particular foods. I have found that by returning to certain foods my symptoms will come back. But by staying on the diet I have found that I no longer need to use the pain meds - I used to be on the maximum dose. I did not think the diet would make so much difference, but it has. As well as reducing my symptoms I now have much more energy and my skin looks and feels great. This book even includes some delicious sweet recipes and having a sweet tooth, then this is great for me. Having this handy book, for which I am so grateful to have found and bought, has helped me hugely and I really do recommend this book.
| | My pain has almost gone by Georgia 5 Stars September 03, 2009 I have suffered from severe and very painful endometriosis for nearly 7 years and afer 5 surgeries I was at my wits end and had given up hope of a normal life. I have tried so many different things to help with my symptoms as the pain was so bad I could no longer go out to work and some days not even get out of bed. My doctor could only suggest a hysterectomy which I knew would not solved the problem - the endo is outside my womb, not inside it!! As a last ditch attempt to try anythig I have been following the diet for Endometriosis - AND IT WORKED!. My pain has almost disappeared and I am now looking to go back to work.
The recipes in this book are very tasty, and I have been able to eat some of my favourite recipes by tweeking them a bit so that they fit with the endo diet. There are stacks of ideas here of how to eat so that your symptoms can be reduced. I also feel much more alert, my skin is better and even my energy levels are getting better all the time.
Before buying the book I read that this book has a few inconsistencies in it, but on reading it fully myself then all things seem to be explained. I am very glad I bought it.
** Just follow the diet and get well - I know how all you ladies like me with endo are suffereing, but please try the diet if you have not done so **
| | Too many inconsistencies by PhotoGirl 2 Stars August 08, 2009 I respect the author's work in providing a resource for those of us suffering from endometriosis and wishing to control it with diet, but this book is too full of frustrating inconsistencies for me to recommend it as a source.
Using this book, I was attempting to compile lists of foods that are beneficial and harmful for one suffering with endo; but several foods are mentioned in one section as okay to eat, and in another section as food to avoid. For example, this book repeatedly says to avoid wheat, but then lists bulger and tabbouleh as whole grain alternatives. Rye is also listed as an alternative to wheat, but then it is with wheat in the list of foods to avoid. I can't understand if it is meant to be a gluten-free diet, or just wheat free... it's never stated. Yogurt is another inconsistency. It is detailed in the foods to avoid page, along with dairy, and she even provides a recipe for an alternative nut yogurt, but then says that live yogurt is okay to eat, and is even beneficial. And, as another reviewer noted, the books says to avoid sugars and honey, but that maple syrup and rice syrup are okay... then never explains why they are okay and honey is not (but then 1/2 cup honey is used in the cranberry tea recipe).
I am also disappointed by some incomplete information and advice. On one page it says to "avoid toiletries that contain chemicals that mimic estrogen" but never are these chemicals listed. I think if you already on the endo diet, then there are probably some good recipes, but I wouldn't recommend using this book as a starting point.
| | Chock full of nutritious recipes by M. Danielski 4 Stars May 03, 2009 This recipe book has enough recipes to keep you cooking for a year, as well as explanations about why you must avoid certain foods in order to heal from endometriosis. The author writes compassionately to those suffering from endometriosis, encouraging readers/patients to take control of the disease through everyday behaviors, namely supporting yourself through nutrition. If readers follow the instructions for healthy eating, they'll no doubt see improvements in overall health, not just a lessening of the endometriosis symptoms.
However, be aware that this is book really falls under the self-published category, so you may find the few misspellings or the layout distracting. It's not your typical glossy cookbook with pictures or tabs categorizing types of recipes. But the point isn't to be pretty; it's to be informative.
| | Nice jumping stone by MooChelle (Pulaski, TN USA) 3 Stars February 25, 2009 There are several recipes in this book, all of them sound delicious (mostly)...However the majority of them do not include ingredients readily available, or available in the states for that matter. It is however a good starting point for anyone that is just starting out on the Endo Diet. I suggest you do some looking at recipes and places on the internet before sinking the money into the book. Especially if you are like me and you think you are buying a recipe book to have on hand at all times...
