Product Description
This book treats smoking as a real addiction and not just a bad habit. It teaches smokers who want to quit how to work through their drug dependency step by step and equips them with an arsenal of self-defense skills to disarm their most intense cravings and begin to retrain their minds. Inspiring stories from nine ex-smokers tell how they struggled through withdrawal, learned to face new challenges, and coped with ordinary stress without smoking again.

It Works by L. Nawrot 5 Stars

My sister sent me this book after doing one of the authors programs. I was a smoker for 25 years and quit 2 years ago after reading this book. No slip ups either. In the past I had tried patches, gum, acupuncture, hypnosis - nothing worked. After reading this book I finally understood I had an addiction, not a bad habit. Finally understanding that I was an addict and following the steps in this book led me to the success of being smoke free. I am so glad my sister sent me this book. I can't thank her and the author of this book enough. They had the easy part though - I had to live through the temporary discomfort :)

Amazing approach to nicotine addiction treatment by Brian C. Setzler (Portland, OR USA) 5 Stars

I was a pack a day smoker for over 20 years when I found a class offered by Patricia Allison back in 1991. I've been an ex-smoker since then and with her approach and techniques, learned to let go of the addiction and find real relief almost as soon as I stopped. A year after stopping smoking with this program I became CEO of what later became ASPIRE, nicotine addiction treatment services. We had tremendous success helping hardcore smokers in the Portland are between the early '80s and late 90's. We closed when the patch and gum became available OTC and the pharmaceutical companies convinced smokers you could treat addiction with more nicotine. Unfortunately, we no longer offer classes and this book is the next best thing. The greatest error I see smokers make using this book as self-study, is underestimating their addiction by only doing part of the approach, part of the time. If you choose to follow this book's approach, my advise is to follow each and every recommendation and to apply 110% effort in your own recovery. If you find yourself blowing off a 1-minute mental exercise because it is inconvenient, ask yourself how inconvenient it has been to smoke 20, 30, 50 thousand or more cigarettes?

AFTER NEARLY 42 YEARS OF CONTINUOUS SMOKING I READ HOOKED BUT NOT HELPLESS. I PUT THE BOOK DOWN AND NEVER PICKED UP A CIGARETTE AGAIN THAT WAS 6 YEARS AGO THIS PAST JANUARY, 05. I HAD TRIED TO QUIT MANY TIMES TO NO AVAIL. SOMEHOW AFTER READING THE BOOK IT GAVE ME A TOTALLY DIFFERENT MIND SET ON SMOKING. I DIDN'T FOLLOW THE BOOK TOTALLY. THE BOOK RECOMMENDED YOU TO PICK A QUIT DATE. BUT AS I MENTIONED AFTER READING IT I WAS CONVINCED AND NEVER PICKED UP AGAIN.

it worked for me! by Kato D. (chicago, il USA) 5 Stars

after smoking a pack a day (two packs a day on weekends) for 17 years and quitting and relapsing innumerable times, i finally succeeded using this method. i have been an ex-smoker now for 4 1/2 years!!! the arguments here give you the rationale to combat addict thinking and overcome the mental tricks your addiction uses to get you to start smoking again. i bought this book after my father and step-mother used it to quit about 7 yrs ago (they are both still ex-smokers). i had it on my shelf for a year and one day i decided to quit smoking and i grabbed the book and read it instead of buying another pack of cigarettes. i haven't had one puff since. i recommend buying it and let it sit on your shelf til you are ready.

It's a shame this isn't in print, but at least buy it used 5 Stars

It works. That's the #1 thing you need to know. The author's program was recommended to me by two ex-smokers I trust, and I purchased it online at Allison's site, stopsmoking dot com. If you're not willing to do that, you owe it to yourself to at least try a used copy of her book. Why? Because I don't smoke anymore, after 27 years of addiction.
