CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 3 reviews)
| flawed in more ways than one by B. McKeon (somewhere in the bush) 2 Stars October 07, 2009 if it were just for the content of the book, i would give it 4 stars, and that's being generous. it is informative and covers the basics. where it could see a lot of improvement is with sustainable practices. in many cases when it talks about feed for example it effectively just says, buy pellets. much more detailed nutritional information about the species covered would be useful. people wanting to build sustainable systems are going to want a needs and yields analysis of all the components in the system.
there is too much space wasted on describing one particular system and how to build it. if you are looking for building plans then this book is great, but otherwise it is not general enough. i'd like a much more thorough treatment of integrative approaches, like aquaponics for example, but also with other flora/fauna.
so why did i give it 2 stars? one star off because it lacks an index, and another because i received the book in poor condition as it was wrapped solely in a thin manila envelope, the kind without the bubble wrap. normally i would not consider that in the review of a product, but in this case the book was shipped to me by the publisher. presumably a self publisher. i consider the book overpriced as well, should have cost $12 max for the quality, but i won't take off another star for that one, just to be nice.
| | Does what it says in spades 5 Stars June 12, 2004 The review written in 1999 is accurate and I won't make comments along the same lines as it does so sufficiently.
However, an alternative to building a system is buying a system. They ain't cheap so the book is the better buy. However, one should know that systems are out there offered by people like Aquatic Eco Systems (their Fish Farm series) and Crop King.
| | excellent basic setup shown 5 Stars November 10, 1999 This book has everthing that you need to get started into a aquaculture setup for your home. It explains the setup of your system and gives you the knowledge maintain it. They also show you how to build every thing from the bilogical filter to the clarifiers. large amount of information presented in an easy to read format.
