CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 4 reviews)
| Very Elementary by Charles Moher (London, Canada) 2 Stars August 06, 2009 I certainly wouldn't recommend this book for anyone older or more sophisticated than a high school student. In fact the first few projects (chapters) are for the under 12 years of age set. Even the more advanced ROV plans are doomed to destruction at a few meters of depth as they are made of PVC and plastic components. This stuff would get crushed real quick even near the bottom of a very shallow lake. It's an OK introduction to some of the challenges of under water engineering but definitely too basic for anyone with serious intentions. There are no serious electronic control circuits on offer, but rather some electricity 101 stuff. I'd sooner recommend "Model Submarine Technology" by Bruggen for people with engineering backgrounds. This might be a great book for the sailor's high school aged son.
| | Nice book for all ages by QS3000 5 Stars June 13, 2009 Nice and detailed book. Two ROV projects; one for starters and one for more advanced users. It contains other projects too, all made with easy to find materials. Recommended for all ages.
| | Not at that price though... 4 Stars March 08, 2004 This is indeed a great book, but guys... $192 ! You can buy this elsewhere on the net for around $30 including delivery. Don't give in to gougers, it just isn't that rare a book !
| | Build Your Own Underwater Robot by Kerwin L. Lumpkins (Highlands Ranch, CO United States) 4 Stars December 14, 2001 Really neat book. I have wanted to tinker with an underwater robot for some time. Indeed, who hasn't wanted to build a submarine or something like it since they saw their first submarine war movie. This book presents the fundamental design challenges in very clear English. There are 2 vehicle designs presented with plenty of diagrams and hints to avoid common pitfalls. The techniques for waterproofing the motors and control system are very simple and are commonly available in any hardware store or even already in the household. Great book to get one started in underwater robotics. And to finally fulfill that childhood dream.

| Robot Building for Beginners by David Cook (Author)
Loads of pictures and very frank discussion make this book a pleasure to read, and a real learning tool. The author gives lots of practical advice, some of which would be useful even to experienced tinkerers. It is very thorough. — Edward Chin, The Canadian Linux Users' Exchange Learning robotics by yourself isn't easy, but it helps when the encouragement comes from an expert who's spent years in the field. Not only does Author David Cook assist...
