excellent by Claudia A. (WA, USA) 5 Stars

I have read several books about Lyme disease. This is by far the most comprehensive, readable and useful book I have read so far. In fact, I originally borrowed it from a library but decided to purchase it through Amazon after realizing it was a reference book I wanted to own. It is well written and well indexed. I highly recommend it.

Excellent Guide to the Use of Herbs in Treating Lyme & Coinfections by Aphros (USA) 4 Stars
September 18, 2009
Title: Healing Lyme: Natural Healing and Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis and Its Coinfections Author: Stephen Harrod Buhner Paperback: 288 pages Publisher: Raven Press ISBN: 0-9708696-3-0 June 2005, $19.95 Genre: Health/Alternative Medicine Healing Lyme is a book centered on the use of herbs in the treatment of Lyme Borreliosis and the science which backs up the success of such herbs. The book begins with an introduction to the great Lyme controversy and moves on to a scientific description of how the B.b. spirochete operates and evades immune response. Next, Buhner outlines his approach to treating the disease with herbs and then goes on to list the primary herbs in his protocol, along with meticulously detailed information on the origins of the herbs, their traditional uses, dosages in Lyme, side effects and contraindications associated with usage, and more. Buhner then goes on to expand his protocol to address acute Lyme and to treat specific symptoms (Bell's Palsy, Lyme Arthritis, fatigue, etc.) Also included is a chapter on the three primary coinfections - Erlichiosis, Babesiosis, and Bartonella. Buhner finishes with a short chapter on Lyme prevention and treatment of initial tick bite as well as a list of resources at the very end. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All in all, Healing Lyme is the best place to look for comprehensive scientific information about each of the herbs in Buhner's protocol. In this way it is an especially useful reference for naturopaths and others who treat Lyme. The data on clinical trials and uses of the herbs for other medical ailments are fascinating, but less helpful for the Lyme patient. In addition to this, the text is not terribly friendly to Lymies with brain fog (an all-too-common symptom of Bb). I remember the first time I read this book over a year ago when my head was so cloudy, I had to give up half way through the book because I couldn't follow what Buhner was saying. Granted, using scientific jargon isn't a crime, but when writing a book on Lyme in particular, I think it necessary to take into account the fact that those with brain fog aren't going to be able to keep track of the differences between OspC and OspA proteins, nor are they going to care. In that manner this book is more than just a guide to "healing Lyme," as the title suggests; it's also a book about the constituents of herbs and their uses for other ailments. My only other complaint is a slightly disorganized resource section. All this aside, to a now cleared-up brain, Healing Lyme serves as a rich well of critical information on andrographis, cat's claw, and other herbs key to the successful treatments of Lyme. Another helpful feature is a section on treatment of early Lyme and a specific herb that, if taken continually at proper dosages, can drastically reduce the risk of chronic infection if bitten. For those looking into herbal treatment, it's definitely worth the fourteen bucks to pick up a copy at Amazon. Part of: Stand Alone If you liked this book try... Sensible approach by MJS 5 Stars
September 14, 2009
This book provides a comprehensive approach to both acute and chronic Lyme disease, examining allopathic treatments and providing well-researched core protocols through supplementation. Reading the book cover-to-cover provides a good breadth of information and insight, but the format also offers callout boxes providing core protocol information at-a-glance. I devised my core protocol from these boxes (while, of course, reading the cautionary statements and other vital information) and have already experienced an improvement in my immune response after just over a month. A balanced view that is both pragmatic and supportive of the frustration that surrounds this baffling disease, this book is a ready reference on my shelf.

Help after I'd given up hope... by Myles (Connecticut) 5 Stars
September 14, 2009
I was diagnosed with Lyme a year and a half ago and at the time I was diagnosed I was told that I had had it for awhile. I was put on antibiotics for 30 days and seemed to get better. Then, it came back. Again and again. I was off and on Doxycycline (mostly on) for the better part of a year. I got C-diff colitis from all the antibiotics. I was sleeping entire weekends and exhausted at work, had horrible pains in my head and neck and problems with my vision and memory. I was depressed and losing hope that I would ever get back to normal. The nutritionist at my healthfood store recommended Healing Lyme by Stephen Harrod Buhner and I have been following the "core protocol" recommended in the book for the past 6 months. I have not needed antibiotics and I have seen tremendous improvement. I have most of my energy back, I'm jogging again, the pains in my head are gone, my memory is improving and I feel more like my old self. The book supports the use of antibiotics to treat Lyme. Unfortunately, I had reached a point where they were making me as sick, if not sicker than the Lyme. The natural protocol described in this book really helped me and I imagine it would also help if taken in conjunction with antibiotics. The book also explains how the Lyme spirochetes can hide in your body and change form to trick your defenses. It helped me to understand why it is so difficult to treat if it is not caught early. I feel like I've gotten my life back and I would definitely recommend this book to others who are struggling with Lyme disease.

This book is informative, very clear and easy to read. It gave me insights into what I needed to do for my condition, naming specific herbs and what they do to help. It also offered hope of recovery.
