EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
In Trachoma: A Blinding Scourge from the Bronze Age to the Twenty-first Century, Hugh Taylor presents a fascinating and comprehensive review of trachoma, from ancient times through to the present. He makes his own predictions and recommendations regarding methods for eliminating this scourge for all time. Trachoma, which has been targeted by the World Health Organization (WHO) for elimination by 2020, currently affects 84 million children in 56 countries and blinds 1.5 million adults. This seminal and highly readable work will be invaluable for anyone who is interested in trachoma, but will also appeal to those interested in the interface of public health and development, the history of medicine or health care development.

Every coffee table should have one by Gerald I. Byrne (Memphis, TN) 5 Stars

It is truly amazing to have a scientifically credible accounting of trachoma, one of the historical scourges of mankind - assembled into a visually beautiful text that combines art, science and very readable insights into a single package. This is a wonderful achievement and a magnificent book.

A history book that reads like a novel! by V. M. Sheffield (Washington, DC) 5 Stars

This book is amazing! I had no idea! I thought it was going to be another trachoma handbook or clinical guide for those working in the trenches, but it's a history book that reads like a novel! Hugh Taylor discusses how trachoma influenced ancient and modern cultures, armies, and health systems. The photos of the early trachoma pioneers and mentors are priceless. This book is well worth a place in any medical library, highly recommended. Victoria M. Sheffield President & CEO, International Eye Foundation, USA

A fascinating read by Keith Martin 5 Stars

This is a fascinating story. Hugh Taylor has a lifetime of experience fighting trachoma and I doubt anyone else could have produced such an authoritative yet compellingly readable account. Beautifully illustrated throughout, this is a perfect example of a medical book that really needs to be a book. It can be dipped into and enjoyed by medical and non-medical people alike. Highly recommended. Keith Martin, University of Cambridge, UK
