Product Description
Cledus is an attractive, hardworking, 50-year-old man with a sense of humor and whose world is turned upside down when he becomes one of 20.6 million Americans who are diagnosed with chronic kidney disease each year. His girlfriend leaves him, his mother tries to take over his life, and his financial security is severely compromised as his world shrinks down to monitoring the buzzing sound of his ""lifeline"" that confirms he is alive. Cledus’ story is told with compassion and humor that encompasses the uncertainty, fears, and frustration of day-to-day living while coping with this disease. Readers will share the journey with Cledus as he faces his challenges, and relates his frustration, his feelings of isolation and his courage as he deals with the life-sustaining confinement of a dialysis machine. Through a maze of medical examinations, physician consultations, and endless diagnostic tests, he learns about his disease, treatment options, and how to trust his heart.

Helpful and informative by Sandra L. Isaacson (Las Vegas) 3 Stars
February 09, 2009
This book provided a lot of new information for me as I am getting ready for dialysis. I was a little disappointed after getting into the book because I felt it was a fictional account and I was hoping for a real account of what a patient was actually going through. It was still informative, though.

A story many sufferers of the disease will relate to by Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) 5 Stars
July 09, 2008
No matter how successful one's life is, there is always the threat of disease. "That Damn Dialysis" follows Cledus B. Washington as his life goes from having everything he wanted to rock bottom after he discovers he is suffering from chronic kidney disease. Told with a light heart, "That Damn Dialysis" is a story many sufferers of the disease will relate to. Informing as it entertains, "That Damn Dialysis" is a top pick especially recommended for anyone with kidney disease, their loved ones, and for community library fiction collections.

Information, Educational and Funny! by munchkin (Sacramento, CA) 5 Stars

Great book... I was so interested in what was going to happen next that I read it in 2 days! A relative was diagnosed with chhronic kidney disease and will inevitably end up on dialysis. This was the perfect book to gain insight on what could be expected, what information should be received from the doctors, what questions should be asked of them and what goes through the mind of someone faced with this lifechanging condition. Before reading this, I couldn't imagine someone writing such a journey with such humor, but here it is! I hope all is well with Mr. Washington...

That Damn Dialysis is hilariously educational by Patricia J. Stevens (USA) 5 Stars

That Damn Dialysis is definitely on it's way to the best-seller list! It is a 'must-read' book for anyone suffering with any chronic illness (not just kidney failure). I found this 'medical-novel' to be hilariously educational. I couldn't put it down! Cledus B. Washington is the main character of the book -- however, my favorite character is Ms. Irene. She's a hoot! I recommend it HIGHLY!

Dialysis from a Patient's Perspective by L. Nail (San Antonio) 5 Stars

Outstanding Read! This is a great fictional novel that I highly recommend for patients on dialysis, those starting dialysis and anyone interested in dialysis. It reminds me so much of the acclaimed novel, CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES. It will be a classic for dialysis patients and I look forward to more great work from the author!
